October 21, 200322 yr I got a replacement Disty thanks to Andrew... and it's a little dirty inside. Is it possible that I could clean it out with some degreaser, if there is any that has no electrical conductivity? thanks
October 21, 200322 yr You could nail it with brake cleaner. When it evaporates, there won't be any conductivity.
October 21, 200322 yr They sell electromotive or similar products at the parts stores for cleaning alternators and distributors. Read package carefully.
October 21, 200322 yr I'll second what ShawnW said. The brand name is Lectramotive, and there are other similar products available at the auto parts store. I wouldn't recommend degreaser.
October 21, 200322 yr I have and would use WD-40. It is a solevent/degreaser safe to use on electronic stuff. Bill
October 21, 200322 yr Electric motor cleaner (Lectramotive) or good old WD-40 should do the trick, blowing it out with air will help too, but I would also recommend disassembly or at least partial disassembly because you will want to re-grease the mechanical advance mechanism and re-oil the vacuum advance plate bearing (the cleaner will wash out all the lube). Gary
October 21, 200322 yr Complete dissasembly is not hard at all, then you can use whatever cleaner you want. Check the shaft play in it too. If it's a ND then there should be NO shaft play at all. The Hitachi units will tollerate a bit more, but it still shouldn't be much. There's a place up here in P-town that will rebush the shaft for $35 GD
