As far as springs, if you do any turbo swap into an EA, you're gonna NEED upgraded brakes, so you're gonna need to do the 5 lug swap, and then you can choose what ever struts and springs suit your needs. ballitch Posted April 13, 2006 Share Posted April 13, 2006 well since your going to be using a legacy or wrx tranny, or any other type of Ej tranny, you might as well go to 5 lug like baccaruda said, use impreza stuff up front, and the xt6 out back. this way you wont have as much headache when you try to mate tranny to the hubs. search for accord rear spring swap, and you got your info right there. as far as front springs, when you swap over to impreza stuff, you can use wrx, or sti springs if you want. but id stick with wrx springs up front, anything too stiff will cause alot of understeer, afterall, the accord springs in back can only make up for so much. ~Josh~ Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

NoahDL88 Posted April 15, 2006 Share Posted April 15, 2006 if you put in an STi motor, you're gonna need to upgrade the entire drivetrain, or you will be breaking stuff left and right, hence the rear 5 lug swap. 970subaru Posted April 17, 2006 Share Posted April 17, 2006 for a ea81, how can you go about swapping to complete 5 lug parts in the front end ie the whole drivetrain/axles/knuckles out of a legacy? would shortening some axles by cutting, welding and sleeving be strong enough? I was thinking that maybe they would with a good deep weld really BURNED in on the axle, and a nice sleeve with fishmouths on both ends and some plug welds. but, if there is an easier way I am all ears. I don't think that you'd have to shorten the axles if you did the 5 lug swap, as those will move the wheels and everything out the necessary amount. Tbird Man Posted April 17, 2006 Share Posted April 17, 2006 most decent machine shops can make custom axles to whatever length you need, they can even make ones to mate different joints. also with the STi you may have to alter the tranny tunnel to fit the 6mt. other than that maybe upgrade to an R180 rear diff. This guy in BC did it with a brat. He's a sooper-dooper welder/fabricator. He machined his own axles (among other things).
