Whats could cause that... Timing gears?

could be intake gaskets ,head gasket , i doubt it would be timing gears as this would affect both side,s...check for spark/ fuel then compression..cheers good luck

does ea81 even have timing belts or anything i thought it was timing mark

The gears are not your problem - does that passenger bank light up at higher RPM? Could be a vacuum leak on the passenger side of the intake manifold.

 

Spray around with carb cleaner to find vac leaks, do a compression test to verify compression, and check for spark and plug condition.

EA81 is a push rod engine so there are no timing belts

Leaky or failed valve seal (picks back up at higher RPMs), bent pushrod, valve adjustment, head gasket, rings,.. a number of things.. I have a dead bank with my EA81 at idle, but it kicks in above 1500 rpms. A local mechanic seems to think I need a valve job...
