May 31, 200619 yr I'm probably going to have to do this swap again soon, but there is one thing I'm not sure about. If I use a 4 speed tranny, how long should the drive shaft be? What if I use a 5 speed? This is a turbo coupe, so it is 4wd. Has anyone else swapped a manual into a 4wd coupe?

Has anyone else swapped a manual into a 4wd coupe? the coupe is the same wheel base as the Brats and wagons, so any one of theire shafts will work if you stick with a 4 speed. I don't think there is a difference by tranny in the "ea81" years.... (just by wheelbase.) if you go with the 5 speed, you'll either need the 2 piece driveline from the ea82 donor, or measure to get a custom one made....
May 31, 200619 yr What he said ^^ If you keep the 4spd, make sure you get a good clutch. I did this swap on my first Turbo Wagon and I went thru 2 clutches in 1 month.
May 31, 200619 yr Author Thanks guys! I don't have my FSMs up here, so I can't check out any specs until I get home. What are your opinions for trannys? I haven't decided if I should throw in a 4 speed just to get the auto out of the car, or if I should actually spend the time welding the cross member/shifters for the 5 speed. What do you think?
