June 26, 200619 yr Hello all!! Its been a long time! I appreciate all your help before and now am here to humbly ask for more. My girlfriend 98 Impreza Outback has some minor torque bind issues. I've done my homework and know what I'm going to do but I was wondering can you spot torque bind visibily? I'm going over to her place tommarow and want to be prepared so I can pretend I know what I'm doing! Would anyone have any pictures of good and bad transfer clutchs? Thanks a million and I'll be around! Justin
June 26, 200619 yr Author P.S. A detailed description would be great as well...I'm not really sure what I'm looking for at all, I just know what it does.

With just a little torque bind it will probably cure it. nipper
June 27, 200619 yr Author Thanks.... so is it easy to see torque bind once you have the car up on the lift or do you have to crack open the case? I assume this case gets filled with diff fluid right? Thanks - Justin
June 27, 200619 yr If you know what your looking for, and depending upon how far along it is. You have to crack open the case to see its damage in all its glory, but driving around in tight circels will tell you immediatly if you have TB. If it is just starting you change the fluid first, as that can usually make it go away. It uses tranny fluid to operate like the rest of the transmission. nipper
June 28, 200619 yr Buddy, dont jump and think the case just comes off, its sometimes a difficult situation, i would suggest a tranny flush for sure, just because its miner as u said, or u can put in the fwd fuse and see what happens.
June 28, 200619 yr What I'd like is a pressure indicator on the dash that tells me what the duty C solenoid pressure is - from 0% (AWD locked) to 100% (AWD off). Does this make sense? Is it possible? Anybody done it?

June 28, 200619 yr You can just grab the singal from pin 11, if you know how it works Therein lies the question...
June 28, 200619 yr Author I'm certainly going to do everything suggested before opening the case up. I apprecaite your help. I was just wondering because I brought my car (Impreza L 95') in to the stealership a few months back and the mechanic said after a quick look over of the whole car that my torque bind was really bad. He said I shouldn't wait long at all. Well it did do a little shaking around turns but I just got new tires and now its not doing anything at all. Was I being scammed? Good luck with your electrical issues.... I know http://forums.nasioc.com/ has a electrical section maybe you could try. Is it taboo to mention them around here???
June 28, 200619 yr not necassarily scamed, he may be un educated in the simple fixes of TB. i still wouldnt take my car back to him again. nipper
