July 11, 200619 yr Depends on who did the reman and how much they care about quality. Back in "Ye Olde Days", you had little choice other than factory-original or reman. I have never had any problems with remanufactured parts (other than recently with axles). Nowdays, with our "Global Economy" (cheaper foreign labor and materials), more stuff is sold new. I am not sure that any of it is better, but people like the idea of "new" better than "rebuilt".
July 12, 200619 yr Author I went for it. The warantee excludes abuse and off-roading, but hey if I wash the mud off how can they tell? I can smoke 1 a year and keep getting free ones. I'll update this with a quality report in a few months.
July 14, 200619 yr Author It fit in fine and seems to work properly. It had 6 springs in the hub instead of the 4 in all my others? little odd. I'll see how it does when I get the engine running.
December 18, 200619 yr Author 5 month update. It's slipping if I don't let off fast and hard romping on it in second. I'm also using Low range at uphill stops, otherwise it slipps bad. It seems that any heat makes it slip much easier. So... Review= POS. Now, to find the warranty papers. *edit* in the interest of fair review, I am running 235/75r15 tires on it w/ and EJ22. There was also a brakestand period in there, where RWD and front E-brake were involved. 2 incidences where the tires didn't break free when the clutch was let out, enough so that I could smell the clutch after. But really, it should take more than that to finish a clutch in 5 months.
December 18, 200619 yr when the clutch went out in my lifted wagon, I replaced it with the cheapest thing I could find (reman'd). after that, I wheeled the crap out of it for 5 months or so (frequently needing to drag the clutch quite a bit...couple time where it actually smoked trying to get over something). then my engine seized. we took the motor out, and it sat in a wheelbarrow for about 3 months. then I took it off that motor, bolted it onto my EJ22, and dropped it into my loyale. it slipped a little for the first few days, but now it's holding strong. I'm only using a 4-cyl pressure plate, so I know it isn't the strongest. so I'm pretty careful, making sure to let the clutch fully engage before giving it much throttle....but it's holding very well...having been behind my EJ22 for a good 3 months now.... so yea....I had a good experience. but I'm pretty gentle on things. I drive hard, but only once the clutch is fully engaged. you mention in the first post that you could get the disc for $30....did you just replace the disc? because if your pressure plate is worn, it'll cause lots of slippage, and extra wear on the disc....
December 18, 200619 yr on the new boards also alot of people have issues with non OE clutches. i did a little searching on the net, its not just subaru. Nowi recomend bite the bullit and get the OE clutch and do it once and be done with it. Its cheaper in the long run. nipper
December 18, 200619 yr Reman disc's are generally fine. It's the pressure plate you want to replace with new. GD
