July 24, 200619 yr the Bellows for the manual steering rack(86 loyale)can not be purchased any more...does anyone have suggestions on how to seal this area up
July 24, 200619 yr the bellows is just a dust shield i think, if fluid is coming out of it then there's likely a seal that's leaking somewhere inside of it. you said it needs sealed up, so it's leaking fluid? probably best to find a used rack or scavenge some used but good boots for it.
July 24, 200619 yr Author sorry, I did not mean to say that the rack is leaking fluid...only to seal up the rods coming out of the rack...if the rods get dirt on them and slide back and forth thru the seals, this will cause them to eventually leak/...I am trying to avoid this from happening... the bellows is just a dust shield i think, if fluid is coming out of it then there's likely a seal that's leaking somewhere inside of it. you said it needs sealed up, so it's leaking fluid? probably best to find a used rack or scavenge some used but good boots for it.
July 25, 200619 yr I replaced the boots with some universal ones you cut to the right size... Like $10 worth.
July 25, 200619 yr Yeah - universal or junk yard. Autozone carried a uni-fit that I used on my wagon. GD
July 25, 200619 yr another easy repair on the rack boots is use a dirt bike innertube. its strechy enough that all you need to do is unbolt the tierod from the knuckle assembly and slide it over. secure with a new zip ties or hose clamps
