Your original post didn't reflect your question about the using an EA82T for offroading.

 

The answer is - search.

Opened both eyes this time, re-read the post and it doesnt even mention off-road anywhere in it. The EA82T is a good motor, but not for off-roading.

 

Low compression means low torque off idle. You want the opposite when you are wheelin. You wanna keep the motor at low revs to keep your tires from spinning. The EA82T makes power above 3000rpm, try wheelin at 3000rpm next time and see what you break.

 

not only that, but you have a turbo sucking air into the motor at a high rate of speed. If your in a dusty and dirty atmosphere you will be sucking in alot of junk that will be quick to ruin your turbo.

 

So no, the EA82T isnt a good motor for Off-road use.

Only three that are U-Pull-It's.... sherwood, foster, and damascus. The Vancouver yard is no longer a u-pull-it, and neither is Salem. Ownership changed, prices went up, and two yards went to newer cars that only the employees are allowed to touch.

 

There are many others not owned by FAP tho. Portland Auto Wrecking comes to mind - and some others near it.

Back in Thread... I just wanna add that for Off Road use, I think the Better Engine is the EA82 with a Weber, ´cos the Weber Carb increases the power at lower R.P.M.´s and due to it´s Linkage, you can put all the power just by depressing the gas Pedal to the Bottom...

 

Here, in Honduras, one time long time Ago, but not Long Long time Ago, I saw a Muddy / Rocky competition (Here are some Off Roadin´ Clubs) where a Subaru Brat did participate, it was a nice grey 1986 Brat with a EA82 using a Weber Carb, and at low range, you can hear the engine (Not the exhaust) Soundin´ like a Tractor Engine... It was Awesome, the Subie did not win... but finished second at that time...

 

Well... I saw that competition in person, but I just can see every other competition only by one of Our local TV Channels, due to my Job...

 

I Hope I can get one day a Brat, and Lift it, and Put a EA82 Weberized in It...

 

Well, I Prefer the EA82 Weberized than any turbo engine, for the same reasons already explained by TheSubaruJunkie... :) ... I hope this can help you.

 

Just let me tell you that if I wanted my wagons to be more Powerfull to Run just in Pavement, I´ll swap the EA engine for a EJ22 or EJ25 If could...:D

i meant "like 5" as a general number. what about tigard? or is that the sherwood one? the one's around PAW are actually pretty decent too.

 

the UPI in Vancouver always sucked, there was a good yard out in battle ground, but they don't allow anyone out in the yard anymore. :-\

Yeah - tigard is the sherwood yard - it's really between king city and sherwood, but Tigard is a more recognized name I guess.
