August 7, 200619 yr Hey guys, Amanda needs a new transmission for her 76 wagon ASAP! (the pristine blue one in San Francisco) Does anyone have a 4 or 5 speed 2wd transmission they can ship?? (top mount starter) If so call me at (805)712-0047 Thanks, -Mike (yes I know this should be in the wanted forum, there is one there too)
August 7, 200619 yr will a 73 work on that car? there is one in a yard here in san diego. i would be willing to remove and ship it for time/shipping compensation. call 858.220.2820 if i can help bryan
August 7, 200619 yr I'm pretty sure the '73 and '76 are both 4spds and both the same.I'll check later.
August 8, 200619 yr actually i know a guy who might actually have one...it might be a little pricey cuz the guy is tight wad but give him a call...775-475-0229...his name is john...ask him and see what he's got
August 8, 200619 yr Sorry Mike, all mine would be 4wd single or D/R. Let me knoe if I can help. Ack! You have an EA71 S/R 4spd tranny? I might very well be interested. I'm pretty much for sure having my original rebuilt, but I'm one who definitely likes to have "extras" on hand PM me if you do indeed have one, I don't wanna hijack RenaissanceMan's thread.
August 8, 200619 yr Looks like all 4spds are the same from the drawings. If you go from 4 to 5spd I think it's best to grab the crossmember, clutch cable, etc. too, just to make sure it'll all go.
August 14, 200619 yr Author For all those that wish to know, an EA63 transmission is NOT the same as an EA71 transmission...
August 15, 200619 yr I just have a really tight 4 speed/4WD EA-71. Shifts like new/low mileage of 74K. Todd
August 15, 200619 yr Author Talk about some major overhaulin... for those that want to know, the innards of the Ea63 transmission are interchangeable with the innards of a EA71 2wd 4 speed transmission. (different final drive ratios I think, but still works) put the good guts in the right case, add 3 years of automotive education and experience.. and PRESTO! Amanda is back on the road! Pulled the engine and bad trans out this morning, went into san luis to get a new rear main seal and pick up the trans, got back and did the rear main/clutch, found out the trans was different, took the two transmissions apart, put the good one back together, put the trans and engine back in the car, hook everything up, drive it around, and have a beer! (I had a really long day) Couldent have done it without her help cleaning parts tho. -Mike
