ea81 question

Featured Replies

will a carb ea81 motor work into turbo ea81 ,both 1983 , no digital dash on either one , 1 is a manual 1 is a a/t

What do you want to do? (Too tired to understand "work into")

The carb engine is not a direct drop in... the EA81T has special heads and special pistons. The fuel system and engine management are way different. If you are just trying to run a simple motor in it, you would still have to replace the fuel pump (and deal with some minor fuel line differences) and lobotomize the ECU.

i have 2 ea81 wagons , 1 turbo 1 carb , the carb one has a bad tranny ,some rust, the turbo wagon has no rust but motor needs alot of work , thanks

like pat says, you'll want to use the complete engine/intake/carb, fuel pump and exhaust from the carb wagon.

May have to run a seperate power line to the fuel pump as well, to totally remove the ECU.

disty will hook to the coil the same...

really shouldn't too bad going that way (turbo->carb).

If the heads aren't shot, you could put the turbo pistons in the carb block, and put the heads on it. The pistons are the only difference in the short block besides the hydrualic lifters... but those aren't needed if you keep the solid lifters adjusted. Would be a shame to see yet another EA81 turbo get wasted when the parts are right there to fix it.

I'd get a boost controller, put it to minimum boost, and use the carb'ed motor with all the turbo accessories, if that is possible...

High comp + boost = love at first sight to me. lol
