September 16, 200619 yr My choke was not working, so I put a manual choke on it. The only problem is that now the car runs very rich, and I am not sure what to do with the electrical. I tried grounding it to the chassis but, that only burns out the fuse. If anyone has any ideas, I really need to know what to do. I really don't want to put the original stuff back on. Thanks in advance.
September 16, 200619 yr Electrical wire: Do nothing more than "capping it off" (insulating it). Rich sounds like the manual choke is not adjusted so that the choke comes completely off.
September 17, 200619 yr Choke power has no correlation to fuel mixture. Insulate the dangling wire, and work on adjusting the linkage or whatever you have to do to correct the mixture. GD
September 17, 200619 yr Theres two parts to a choke. The butterfly which adjusts the Mixture. And the throttle control which raisers the throttle. Get the adjustments right. basiclly when the choke is off the butterfly is fully open and the throttle is on the throttle stop screw. And it *should* work great.
September 17, 200619 yr I Agree... but I am not completely sure about what kind of "Manual Choke" you are talkin´ about... but I just wanna Add that maybe you have just a bad Electrical Connnection, and it leaves the butterfly half open; or maybe the Choke Coil itself is damaged, or not properly working... in case of Electrical Choke with manual switch; but if it is only "manual" (Means Mechanical), check for the butterfly´s opening, it should be enough fully open when engine is at normal operatin´ temps; if not, just adjust it. Good Luck!
