November 20, 200619 yr http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24980 I want to lift my 1985 GL Hatchback, 86 wagon, 80 BRAT, etc. . . can anyone give me help, hints, ideas?http://ozified.com/ (Southern CA) http://www.sjrlift.com/ (Bellingham, WA) Pretty much thats only places you can buy from. If there are more, I don't know about them. Can't really say anymore. It's a pretty simple choice..
November 20, 200619 yr yep, it's either Ozified, or SJR. having owned/abused a wagon with an AA kit, and one with a BYB/Ozified kit, and talked to SJR about what he's doing, and seen his work. if/when I ever build another lifted subaru, it'll have an SJR kit. no questions asked. the BYB kit is tough, but the design compramises some very crucial unibody components.
November 24, 200619 yr so what does the BYB kit compromise?adding spacers to the rear shocks rather than longer shocks?
November 24, 200619 yr so what does the BYB kit compromise?adding spacers to the rear shocks rather than longer shocks? on an EA82, 'spacers' are the only way to go, there are no longer shocks dropping the rear crossmember makes it very easy to tweak/destroy the unibody where it bolts to. These are on my (formerly MorganMs) BYB lifted '88 wagon. passenger side, how it should look: driver side, after a hit (not a gentle one...but I barely made it that far up the hill to begin with...) and both BYB and AA drop the leading rod plate....which leaves the same problem. SJR extends the leading/radius rods. which means they're just as prone to bending, but they won't take the framerail with them!
November 24, 200619 yr aa says they still make lifts, but they are like 750 bucks i have one and it has not failed me yet, but ive heard ALOT of gripe about them. i like what i see with sjr and want one myself for my hatch but i think im gunna go bigger than 6 in. as for an ea82 wagon get what you can afford and you will be happy, then weld your rear end buy some kumho mt's and go balance your checkbook , because by that time you will be a junkie:headbang:
