Questions about the 2 lever mod and towing...

Featured Replies

I have heard of doing the 2 lever mod w/ a DR tranny. I also heard someone talking about driving in 2wd in low. Do you think this causes any damage? Would it be helpful to run the RX style 1.2 LOW range and using the 2 stick mod, engage low to tow a trailer thats a little too heavy for the soob? Or even the "real" 1.6 DR? Just thought I 'd start a discussion on the topic... What do YOU think?

move a trailer yes, tow it no. you need to be able to control the trailer on other aspects. like stopping, and what happens when it starts weaving behind you at speed?

Ive been driving in 2wd low for a year now,no issues havent tried towing, SJR

It would have to be the 85/86 RX sedan tranny - "real" RX tranny's are FT4WD so do not have a FWD selection.

As for towing? Hell no - car is too light to tow anything beyond a very small utility trailer, motorcycle, or *maybe* a small fishing boat or canoe trailer or something.

What kind of trailer are we talking about?

Starting a load is not where you run into problems....Stopping is...

What lever is anyone using for the two lever thing?

Just a second "stock" 4wd lever or something different?

I remember towing a old CB750 on a little trailer... it was a little difficult around 55. I do tow that rowboat around all the time now, with the regular push button 5 speed. I don't even know its there. I guess it would be useful to move a heavy trailer on pavement, when 4wd would not like being engaged, but low gear would be helpful. Heck, anytime you need more precise low speed control on pavement. My 1st is not very low now. Any body know what ratio it is? 92 loyale pushbutton 5 speed :burnout:
