bad fuel pump

Featured Replies

so i have a bad pump and sending unit in my 91 sport sedan. to buy everything new is 350$ yikes  dont have that much. so what are my other options as far as replacing it with a 99obs fuel pump. or other things like that. i know if all else fails im going to the bone yard to grab one. as long as the pumps arent different between the sportsedans and the non turbos if someone to clarify that. thanks guys

WHat exaclty is wrong, as its rare for a pump to go bad.

You can replace just the pump, and that you can get off ebay. I think the delaer is selling you the whole shebang.

WHat is worng with the fuel sender?

i do need the whole shbang the sending unit is bad and the pump COMPLETELY toast i have taken it out and wired it to a 12v system and it doesnt do anything. thats why im posting i need a new pump.i can use the housing still but need a new sending unit and pump.

It's hard to say for sure, but the regular EJ22 pumps may be the same (or adequate). I would ask over at legacycentral - there's folks there that have swapped T's into NA cars and they will know if the NA pump is compatible or not.

ok so i bought a new fuel pump and have a bad sender still. but all i want is it running first. so with the new pump my engine is all plugged in and is getting spark and fuel. shocked myself to make sure  it wont start!! it turns over and is very close. also are these 0 clearence engines? i dont want to bend my valves if the timing is off but im pretty sure its not. any ideas as to why its not firing up? how do i reset my ecu? is that a possibility since i replaced my fuel pump i have heard of cars having to get the ecu reset after that part replaced. hope this makes sense and someone can help :drunk:

Lets start at the begining. What made you think you had a bad fuel pump to begin with?

91 is a non interference engine. Latter 96 was the start of the interference models.

I thought from reading your wanted post you had a line on a used one. Guess the newer one won't interchange.

I have a 90 complete tank in my shed I could have sold for much less than the new one, all though shipping would be a hassle.

I believe to reset the ECU you have to disconect the battery for 30 minutes if my memory servers me correctly.

Not sure on the not starting, Good luck!!

i know it is getting fuel forsure. and to answer. the pump was bad to begin with because it did not pump. it did not prep it did not do anything even when out of the tank and i had it wired straight to the pump. the new pump works and preps. i get gas to the engine and it works. so lets have no more talk about the old pump. new one is in and working. it will not work even when the throttle is open at any amount. i am at a loss and have not felt like working on it for a few days. ill get around to it when im tired of taking the bus. someone help me before i get a jeep!
