Hey Rider This is Jerry, yes i had them on my 86 brat. My brat use to pull to the left and i took it to the tire shop. They told me my left wheel was not inline with the right wheel. So they told me i needed those adjustable strut rods, they install them and moved the left wheel to line up the right wheel no more pull fix the problem. Thanks Jerry

Those can be made from stock bars as well, just need to throw it into a lathe, turn it down some more, thenadd some extra thread to the end of it, add a nut and a washer and done!

I have a set of custom gen 1 control arms that I did for EA81 front balljoints. I used the main portion of the EA81 control arm, unbolted the stabilizer rod and made my own the same size as the original ones from my '79 wagon. I made it so they had the caster adjustment just like the ones shown. Reminds me, maybe its time for me to hit up my old highschool shop teacher:-p

ooooo aaaaaa.....may have to get me a set of those next spring.

Am I splitting hairs, or is that not more properly labeled a "tension/compression rod?"

 

I hear (or read) "strut bar" and think "strut tower brace," not that.. but am I wrong, or carrying over a term from a different suspension setup, or something like that?

 

Just trying to further my education, or clarify the thread if I AM right... not tryin to be a jerk :-p

never heard it called a tension/compression rod. usually leading or radius rod. but occasionally strut bar too.

I must be mixing different suspension designs then.. Now that you mention it, radius rod makes more sense.

 

Off to the textbook to expand my mind, I guess..

they prevent the control arm from moving forward and backwards, 1 simple bolt through the subframe is not going to hold the control arm in place when you release all of 80hp :-p

 

heim joints, mmm, yes, I can see that working, I just don't know how strong they are, but in theory they should work.

I wonder If heim joints on the radius rod might help to get a bit more flex out of the front end...

 

1) heim joints work best in front of an axle rather than behind.

2) why use a $100 part when a $5 part will do it's not like we have 12" of suspension travel.
