Weber on the 1600.

Featured Replies

So... instead of stuffin a EA81 into the car and doin the weber swap to it... how about I just put the weber straight onto the 1600? Anyone here running a Weber 32/36 on their EA71? I havent taken a look at the carburator on mine, but I dont think it has the same bolt pattern as the 2BBL Hitachi's. If I dont have the adapter for a EA71, can I bolt a EA81 manifold to my 1600?

Should be no problem there compared to the ea81. Jetting might be just a little leaner from it being a slightly smaller displacement.

i got told ya can use the webber adapter and just redrill it and should be able 2 fit to the 1600 manifold:burnout:

Thats another thing i was curious about. Will the 32/36 be too much carburator for the 1600?

I don't think that will be a problem either. You are at sea level so you will have it even easier.

I put a weber on my "Fat case" EA71, no problems, although the carb I have is a 28/36.. Has a little snappier off-idle response than the 32/36, plus it has an enrichment device instead of a choke.

Wagonpowaa put a 32/36 on his '80 brat without any problems. I'll ask him to check his jets and then post them here.

What about a cam-ed EA71 with the 32/36, how much tuning/re-jeting would that require and could it improve the top-end performance? And which 32/36, the water, manual or electric choke? How about using one on an EA61?

Im pretty sure the 32/36 Im getting has the electric choke, and will be tuned for a EA81. Its comming from Cameron in Australia.

I had a 28/32 on my high compression EA71 in my Brat. Was awesome and perfectly jetted.

Do it. I had a std jetted 32/36 on the 1600 in my Ski Wagon, and it just made the 1600 scream... I also had converted to the newer electronic ea81 disty.

then add a MSD-6A Ignition for more fun....

EA81 adapter is what will work for the EA71. I got mine from an EA81 hatch and bolted perfectly onto my EA71 in the Brat.

Ya, i'm definatly thinking Weber + Electric disty + upgrade ignition, whichever engine I use...

This is for the 79 wagon right? How are you going to get it to pass smog with the weber? If its a smog legal carb I would love to go that route on my 78 Brat.

It already doesnt pass smog, so adding a weber will only help keep it idling and running good.

I havent figured out how to get tags for it just yet.

Modify a stock airbox to fit over the Weber, chances are the idiot at the smog shop won't take the air cleaner off to check, and you could probably tell him it was a stock carb and they'd never know. There ARE emissions-legal webers out there, I've seen them, the usually have extra ports and junk like that to drive the emissions crap.

That doesn't mean it wont pass the sniffer. Which is the real hurdle. Of course You can pull one over the eyes of the stupid tech... but, its the computer thats hard to fool.

i dont think the ea81 intake will work on the ea71 at least thats what im told but ea82 to ea81 intake and vice versa will work.

I put a 32/36 weber on my brat with no problems and my 1600 is all stock just fork out the 30.00 on the adapter and do it. It is a easy procedure to do. it will pass smog

Its not legal in California what so ever, so technically it can't pass smog.

BUT, it might run well enough and if you use the stock airbox modified to fit they might miss it and pass it...
