I have a similar kit, not made by Motive, but some British company. It's basically a bottle with hoses that you pressurize with your spare tire. It came with an assortment of adapters that are nothing but brake reservoir caps with a hole in them. To use them, you move a hose barb thingy (it has a nut and rubber gaskets) from cap to cap. The instructions say that if no adapter fits, just buy a replacement cap for your car, drill a hole and you are all set.

 

It worked well for my Volvos, but I never purchased spare caps for my Subarus. I need to do that someday, it would have prevented me from running the master cylinder dry last Saturday.

 

The point is, you can make your own adapter. Just get a spare cap.

Kept one off the car I scrapped wednesday just incase I want to experiment.

so actually i lied - it works great at 5psi. there's just something cool about pressurizing it to 20 and watching it squirt like the good old days of trying to pee further than my cousin.

 

that being said - works great, keep it at 5-10 psi for Subaru's.

 

that being said, i'm definitely making one out of a spare cap. that's awesome. guess i'll just need to create an insert of some sort into the cap that is sealed but will also turn so i can screw it on.

My Motive unit has a quick disconnect like an air hose (infact it may be exactly alike - haven't tried).

 

Look around here for a link to instructions on how to make a pressure bleeder from a weed sprayer. He details the process that he used to drill and plumb the cap.

 

I would never use more than 10 PSI on anything.

 

I also don't put fluid in the unit.

 

 

IIR each cap is like 15+shipping from a Motive dealer on Ebay.

 

I believe the weed sprayer guy optained his cap from the HELP display.

I use a 1.5" plumbing cap from the hardware store that I drilled and RTV'ed a hose barb conector onto for my Toyota. I haven't needed it for the Subaru yet. The plumbing cap is black rubber w/ a hose clamp on it. Lowes has them for ~ $4.

For the cap for this it seems like you need the part # 1107 all the others will leak

Good time for a bump - Last week I just took an old cap and epoxied a fitting to connect the hose too. The Subaru cap is nowhere near air tight enough to hold the pressure. It's worse than the cap that Motive sends with the unit for Subaru's. What a great idea that's a pain to get to work right.

 

Interested in seeing what this "plumbing cap" is that was mentioned two posts ago. How is it fitted/held tight to the MC i wonder?

My Motive cap (Subaru specific) has been working fine. Although I've only used it 3-4 times.

 

Now the kinda "universal" ones for the GM rectangular ones that the OEM cover just clips on. Well, what a mess. Chains and all. I've tried to use it twice and gave up both times.

how does it seal dave? i mean the subaru one i "made" doesn't seal at all between the lid and MC? is there a gasket or oring or something?

I believe there is a gasket. Been a year since I used it.
