brush guard question

Featured Replies

will this guard bolt onto an 81 hatch if i took off or modified the two front rubber bumper guards on my car?

That is refered to as an "A" Bar. Brush gaurds are different.

Anyway - mock it up and see. It's very difficult to tell from a picture alone. That looks to be the correct bar for a 4WD EA81 - as for it's fit with metal bumpers vs. plastic..... try and see. It looks like it might bolt to the front of the bumper.

it looks like it's a Gen1 77-79 style...

I agree with Mick. The front tabs on either side lead me to believe the same thing.

That is a pushbar for a gen1 subaru. The frame rails are skinner than that of your '81 therefor you will not be able to mount it.

The propper push bar looks near identical, however isntead of tabs in the front to bolt to the bumper (as you see here). There are tabs alittle lower on the 2 main beams, and these bolt behind the stock bumper.

There is also another type of pushbar that doesn't bolt to the engine crossmember, it bolts to where your front tow hooks are mounted.

This is a picture of the correct pushbar for your '81 hatch:

thank you for the input. the one in my photo is on craigslist in southern oregon. It would have sucked to buy it and paid for shipping only to find it wouldn't bolt right up. The guys email is ronajohn@earthlink.net if anyone else could use it. would either markjw or thesubarujunkie be interested in selling the one in their photo?

Hey, that pushbar looks familiar...

Actually, thats the pushbar I got from Shannon BACK in the day. But I do know the one your speaking of :)
