Im going to do the 6 bolt swap on my hubs and i cant remember what the spacing is on the 6 bolt system. I know its the older style 6 bolt? And if i were to get some basic wheels just to replace my stock wheels what is a good offset and width to go with that wont give me any rub? Thanks for any help and sorry for the dumb question:-p

chevy/import wheel spacing is 6X5.5"

subaru is 4X5.5 or 4X140 if you prefer

 

just ask for any chevy truck with 6 lugs or any 4wd import truck/suv

How about six lug wheels from a late 80s Dodge dakota, Will they work?

I put 15x10" 76 Chevy Blazer Wheels on my brat The only problem I had was the little tabs that line the wheel up on the hub had to be ground down, since the chevy wheel hub is to small to fit the tab liner uppers.

Toyota wheels will go right on. Just take a rear drum and remove two of the studs opposite of eachother bolt the hub to the wheel and flip it over, Drill straight through the back side of the drum into the wheel to make a hole. After that give it a 60 deg bevel and put it on the suby. Then you are good to go. You can do that instead of drilling the hubs Its a lot faster and easier. And Just for the record I have never lost a wheel or had a hard time at the tire shop. I might be a little off the subject but I thought That, that might help in your quest for bigger wheels and tires.

Ok That helps i was thinking of doing that as a fall back if i don't find some extra hubs at the junk yard tomorrow. Oh and thanks for your replies especially uberroo. And im still wondering because i may just order some wheels, what is a good width and offset for a non lifted set up. I'm just looking to upgrade tire width and height a bit for handling and top speed gain. Thanks!

I would ask for toyota wheels before the chevy wheels because of that centering up tab issue. the other thing is don't go with to far of an offset with a wide tire or you will be hammering your fender wells I just did the same thing today. a 195/60/15 Would be about the biggest you would want to go or else its hammer time. I have a 220/55/390 (pugs They are the metric wheels and tires) and it hits just a little bit nothing like the 195/75/14 with a little offset That ended up taking some tread along with it. it's Very bad news.

(185 80 R13) I'm thinking that a 195 50 R16 would be close and give me a lower profile look? Please give me your 2cents

For 16" wheels you are on your own I don't know what size you are gong to want I would think it would have to be a very low profile tire. The most common size would be probably a 225/60/16 but I don't know what that would mesure up to be in Inches. You could get the measurement like this

225mm wide 60% of 225mm is the height and once you get a number there add 16" for the wheel. This is what it looks like writen out. 225mm x60%=135mm high=5.3Inches top and 5.3inches bottom = 10.6 + 16" wheel+ 26.6" tire and wheel total height.

If you measure from the hub to the front of the fender or top of the fender well you can only have 13.3" (1/2 of 26.6) of area where a tire this size would fit. That's kinda confusing but read it twice it'll make sense. 13.3 does not count for any travel your shocks may move so keep that in mind to you would honestly pobably want something in a 40 series tire. try that formula with a 40% instead of a 60% and see what you get.

80's and 90's Mazda B2200 and B2600 have 6x140 spacing. Lot' of them are

14inch which is great for options if you're not doing a lift. Or even with a lift, 14s are till great.

 

These Mazdas were popular mini-trucks for customization. So there are ton's of aftermarket options out there as well. But the steel factory 14's are sweet, and have a good offset for our soobs.

 

Suzuki Samurais also have 6x140, 14's.

Chevy luv's and ford couriers are a 6 lug wheel too. They don't have a lot of off set but they are 14" aswell.

I believe standard backspacing on the Toyota rims is in the neighborhood of 3.5"

That's why I preffer the import wheels. I don't like the really deep backspacing of the Chevy wheels either. It excacerbates the rub issue on the front fenders.

Haha yup thats me in good old happy valley! There aren't too many old soob's out here and im probably the only proud wagon owner in the whole city. :-\ Need some more representation out here. Anyways i have been doing my research into the tires for the 16's and the tires will cost more than i payed for my car. And wont give me many off road tread patterns either. So I will be going to the Junk yard Thursday again. i saw some potential 6 bolt options out there yesterday. So, the big debate becomes just drilling 2 holes in the rim or 4 new ones per hub.? Any preferences? im leaning toward the drilling the rim set up but i don't know how to bevel or div it the rim for the lug nut to sit in. Any help/ opinions would be great!
