February 11, 200818 yr anyone know if the 4wd rear springs are teh same as the ones on a 2wd? anyone know of a place that can get lowering springs for a 91' legacy lol.. i'm gonna be replacing all teh struts with kyb gr2's, already ordered them, just wanna drop it an 1"1/2 or so while i am at it... don't worry its a fwd car
February 11, 200818 yr They should be the same. Whiteline springs will work, I think the drop is 2" maybe less.
February 11, 200818 yr i have INTRAX springs on my 96' legacy...they worked great dropped it like 2 inches.....good price too at only like $240.....plus they came with a little sticker for your car....
February 11, 200818 yr You will find 90-91 springs will be different than 92-94 leggy springs. Also different from 95+. Some may work, some may not. There is alot of discussion on swapping suspension for old school legacies. Alot of it i have not yet mastered, im working on lowering my '92 Wagon and making it alittle stiffer... i hear of people using everything from WRX to RS struts/springs. There is only one manufacturer out there that makes lowering springs specificly for the '90-'91 and '92-'94 Legacies and that is Whiteline... however, a complete set will put you back around $300 to $500.

February 12, 200818 yr be careful man....thats what my subarus previous owner did with my subaru and it messed them up bad....started bottoming out the struts and every time I turned the steering wheel or went over a bump the spring would pop off the perch and rub against the tire..... I ended up drilling through the strut perch and putting about 7 or 8 industrial stregth zip ties on there....I eventually replaced the springs and struts.....the springs i bought were not specifically made for my model year and they worked great for me... .....if its your beater car great...but i would not recommened cutting your spings.....good luck though with whatever you decide to do.....

February 13, 200818 yr youre supposed to lift a subaru not lower it! I don't know about you fellas, but I KNOW I'm lifting my Sport Sedan, when the 3' of snow melts and it warms up in "God's garage".
February 13, 200818 yr My most humble pleasure Tony, hope it helps. Amen to that Rav! My SS needs some clearance reduction, now about those Whitelines I have left over from my old Imp??? Off to check the chart.
February 16, 200818 yr Author heh, well i instaled the new gr-2's on the rear of my legacy.. no funny issues at all, struts were identical to the originals.. when my other front gets here, they will go on tuesday if its nice outside..
April 28, 200817 yr Author just an update.. i forgot to post when i did the fronts... the front struts were different.. the gr-2's perch was almost 2" higher on the struts than the originals.. so now i have a legy that looks like its gonna take off.. so kyb did use the 4wd front strut for the 2wd.. thus causing the takeoff effect.. torch coming to a legacy near you...
April 29, 200817 yr Perfect picture for these threads Stock 1990 AWD Legacy on left...Stock 1990 FWD Legacy on right. Both on 15 inch rims - slightly taller tires on the TZ (grey one) FWD springs are softer than AWD and the FWD struts have different mounting points so they give a lower ride.
