86 -> 87 Digidash compatibilty

Featured Replies

The digidash in my 86 GL-10 sucks, will an 87 dash swap?

Also, there appears to be a "shift up" light in the dash, that never lights, is that an option we never got, or something like air suspension that never works?

Some other neato things I discovered while tearing apart a digidash a while back to fix the temp gauge, I guess somewhere other than here, they had an indicator that told you what speed the cruise control is set at, cuz the display segments are in there, you have to actually take it apart to see them though.

Wasnt 87 the odd year? Where nothing cross-matched? I have the shift-up light, but I have never seen it light up. But there is a definate beep when your R's go to the redline. Where are the MPH numbers for the CC? I havent seen those yet.

Rob

I don't think 87 is an odd year. My 87 Dash(and my last 87 dash) looks just like my 88 Digidash did. Connections, as far as I can remember from my 88 appear to be the same as well. To do the swap from 86 to 87, you will need, at minimum, FSM for both cars, some wire cutters and lost of electrical tape, solder and shrink wrap.

Damn Rob you took that car to redline? Your braver than me!

As stated, the dash swap is not a direct plug-n-play, more mix-n-match.

I don't know anything about the shift up light or the CC thing.

There are at least two diffs between the units beside the outward appearance. The '85/'86 has the outside temp gauge in it and it has two odometers (I think this is internal and wouldn't affect wiring?), the '87+ does not.

Sweet, you got the 315K car from Hood River eh?

My 86 GL-10 (remember the one I blew like $1800 total on  ) hit redline pretty fast. The beeper came on afew times for me, but no shift up light either.

The dash that Andrew was referring to with all those things you can see when its apart was mine cause my dash sucked.

hmm shift up light huh, never saw one of those on my 86' turbo wagon..

and yes i took it to redline, it beeps for about 6 seconds as it passes redline then the fuel cut comes in...

yeah lots of electrical tape, splices, etc for that swap lol

Another thought...

If you are gonna swap the dash, why not install an analog dash? Its gonna be alot of work either way so might as well have something that consistently works well.

I was only gonna swap it if it was a direct swap, or one that required minimal snipping of wires. I'm just going to install an aftermarket temp gauge. But yeah, it's the 315k car from Hood River.
