Durania
I have had a lot of goofy issues that were caused by bad alternators. Replace it and go from there.
GeneralDisorder
The alternator definitely is putting out AC - replace it. You may also have blown fuses from the sounds of it. GD
True2Blue
yea ill do that. untill then does anyone know if there are anyother fuses or relays that would cut out my dash light and tail/corner lights?
GeneralDisorder
yea ill do that. untill then does anyone know if there are anyother fuses or relays that would cut out my dash light and tail/corner lights? Poor voltage from the alternator regulator will kill fuses - you want to fix the alternator first or you'll probably just keep blowing them, and bulbs - maybe smoke a few more components. True2Blue
the alt. will cut off just those two? cause everything else works fine. i might have got it wet also
Durania
Don't beat around the bush with alternators. Its an easy fix, don't drive around with the alternator about to go out, you'll be paying for a tow ride home.
Cougar
There is a relay in the circuit for the running lights. Power for them is supplied by the left side headlamp relay. If the left side headlight is out then you will need to find the relay and replace it. Fuse #6 supplies power to the running lights. The warning lights coming on is caused by the bad alternator, as the others have correctly stated. Replace the alternator ASAP. Edit: I stated right side earlier. It is the left side relay. True2Blue
THANK YOU! now to find the relay:rolleyes: ill pull the alt. tomarrow
Cougar
Is the left headlight out? If the headlight works then the relay isn't the problem. There should be four relays near the right side of the steering column. Two of them are for the headlights.
True2Blue
nope everything works great. just my running/tail lights
Cougar
Check to see if fuse 6 is getting power. If fuse 6 has voltage getting to it then you will need to see if there is voltage getting to the light switch on the red/blue wire.
True2Blue
still stumped. if the switch was bad would the headlights turn on?
GeneralDisorder
still stumped. if the switch was bad would the headlights turn on? Have you replaced the alt yet? You are going to chase your tail till you do. GD
Durania
Have you replaced the alt yet? You are going to chase your tail till you do. GD He's 100% right. You will be surprised at all the things that can be solved by getting a new alternator.
True2Blue
its pouring rain and im not at the shop ill wait a little bit before testing it again:rolleyes:
Cougar
The alternator is bad but unfortunately a new alternator isn't going to fix those lights. In my last post I wanted you to see if fuse #6 had power getting to it. This is an important check since it is after the relay and before the switch. If you have power there then you need to check the red/blue wire on the switch for power.
Yo'J
I just had the same thing happen to me! I re wired everything till I noticed the melted cluster attached to my radiator! Took me two weeks to find and fix as it would only short out on the rainy days! After a little careful prying and a good dab of rtv ! Glad I don't have to drive the freeway with my hazards on anymore! PS don't let uhaul re wire your lights!
