It looks like I need a new CD player

Featured Replies

I tried cleaning the Cd player with one of those cleaning disks no luck. The player takes in a CD, spins it around for a couple of seconds and then spits it back out. Any ideas what's wrong?

AND!!! is there a source for buying a replacement single CD player that fits in the 1999 Outback Limited besides a Subaru dealer?

There are several things that can cause that problem. Assuming it does this with most of your CDs, one common fault is that the output of the laser becomes reduced over time. It's rarely worth the cost of repair, so probably best to look for a replacement. If you do find one at a JY, make sure they have a reasonable return policy should the pulled one be bad.

Why don't you go to Best Buy or Circuit city and buy a newer CD palayer that will also play MP# cd's. I put onw in my outbacka and all I had to do was buy the wiring harness adapter. I wired it up to the player and plugged directly into the outback wiring. It sounds great and I can get 8 cd's on one if I record it with mp3's.

Just a thought and not a very difficult job.

The new aftermarket radio's have amazing features and are pretty cheap, but usually require aftermarket wiring adapters and possibly mounting kits. If you are considering this, I would look at crutchfield, for prices and a good place to buy, as they include whatever adapters are needed with the sale. The downside of the replacement radios is they usually have confusing controls to handle all the new features, and frequently red lighting which doesn't go with your green lighting at night at all. Another source for an original style replacement would be ebay. I know a while back, a lot of people here were getting WRX six disc changers (red lighting again) and putting them in older legacy's, a search would probably give more info.

I've got the single 2 piece radio, cd, WB and tape I'd sell ya for $50 from a 99 Outback and the 1 piece radio, cd, WB, and tape for $75 from my 98 Outback Limited. PM me.
