nobody in town has the whole reseal kit. so i was wondering if i could get away with just doing the mickey mouse gasket and possibly get the rest of the kit later? im super strapped for cash and i need to get my car going tomorrow also does anybody in spokane have a clutch alignment tool i could borrow? the car is a 88rx i was also wonderin where i put selant on the block when im puttin the oil pump on. thanks. spokanesoob

of course you can. not the best idea but that's for you to decide.

RTV goes at noon and 6 oclock on the oil pump housing or engine block. basically look for the very fine zig-zag pattern where the two block halves meet, that is where the RTV is supposed to go.

Do what you have to do. You can get away with just the mickey mouse gasket, but you may still have leaks, and have to take it all back out before very long.

tip from grossgary (search "oil pump"+sealant): Use anaerobic sealant or RTV very lightly at the 12:00 and 6:00 positions, where the pump meets the engine block, just where the two halves of the engine block come together.

well you should give me a call... i can get the complete oil pump kit, mickey mouse o-ring and one other single o-ring. i think the pump just mounts directly onto the block, no gasket there... could be wrong. also i definately have a clutch alignment tool you could borrow- as long as i get it back. give a call man.... im willing to help just have to let me know when and where.

ok i will prolly give you a call sometime tommorow or sunday if that is cool with you. i really need that clutch tool. i'm buing the gasket today so i think its too late to get the whole kit

You don't need a clutch alignment tool for any EA subaru. I haven't used one in years.

Eyeball the disc. Leave the bolts for the PP loose so you can just slide the disc around but it doesn't flop like a dead fish.

Install the tranny.

Tighten the PP bolts through the starter hole.

a/8' socket extension fits in the polit hole. wrap the extension in tape to meet the diameter of the clutch disc

I just did something similar on a Ford Contour - worked fine..

But there's still no need on an EA - tighten through the starter hole.

the starter hole trick is super great to know. It's a little hard with a standard box/open wrench, but one with an offset neck is perfect for this. I'd rather carry such a wrench than a clutch alignment tool, becuse the wrench will be useful for more than one thing. I will use the tool if I have one, though, because it's faster.
