Camsshafts

Featured Replies

Since I am relatively new to the Subaru engine crowd I have not as of yet discussed camshaft designs with anyone. I have done a "whole bunch" with Datsun "A" series and "L" series motors but of course they were straight four cylinder engines and not the "boxer type" engines. What kind of cam grinds are your folks running and who do you get your performance mods done buy.

With Datsuns there was a whole line of racing and performance stuff generated for both the A&L series motors. I could get what I wanted from Datsun Competition or from Dave Rubello, the Datsun Guru ,down in the Bay Area. Since I have relocated to Washigton State I have discovered as serious lack of "4 banger" performance specialists, especially in the older Subaru areas.

PAECO is a joke as far as their prices are concerned. You would think that all of their stuff was specially made from "Gold alloy" considereing the prices that they charge for their engines and engine parts. It is also interesting that there is no one making exhaust header pipe conversions for the EA81. By that I mean a "form the head back to a Y collector" that is of suitable ID size to give the little guys a chance to get rid of exhaust gasses.

Any suggestions?? would be greatly appreciated.

We have a viraity of performance profiles for your Subaru EA81, EA82, EJ22, EJ25, and EG33 engines. Our prices will please you, and we are in your neighborhood. 1-800-562-5500.

I just had a set reground for my EA82T and I was very pleased with the price. I have yet to get the motor installed and running but from what others on the board have said, I will be pleased. I am not a cam-techie but I got a torque grind. About $135 shipped:)

Search this board as well as the internet for EA81 performance and Aviation engines. There are several companies that build the crap out of EA81s and sell parts, do machine work etc.

As far as exhaust goes, your right, there aren't premade header for these motors. Search for Techworkseng turbo wagon. They built a wicked, almost equall length header for an EA81T.

It's out there but not that easy to find

I suspect that Q's from this board will be forthcoming once the word gets out you guys have decided to stop by and browse.

Scott, right?

I have some Delta cams sitting at my local shop, Bow Wow autoparts. I believe it was like $75 a cam... so $150 total. Very decent prices.

For the EA82T they seemed to have to different grinds. One pretty radical, requires modification of something to get it to work. The other not so radical.

I'll post the specs on my cam after I pick it up.

i ordered part number 677-260 yesterday - $170 before you send the cores back.

they say 10-15% increase from the feedback theyve gotten...nice power to dollar ratio...ill let you guys know once i get this POS back together.

yes, let me know dennis.. i'll be resealing and changing belts on the RX's new motor before it goes it.. so if you cams work out i might just slap a set in my motor while its apart..(save me the trouble later) hehe..

I have....err, HAD the cams that Dennis just ordered. very NICE! I sold/gave them to some one on the board...

I had them in my Racer RX project...but it ate 2 sets of headgaskets in 8 days. So it parked now. lol Dont worry, the cams had nothing to do with the HG issue.
