January 6, 200422 yr so,..... in my 89 wagon, last winter i got problrms getting in warmed up, this winter (aftrs getting the over flow cap from MOOSENS) the beast is getting warm real quik, but last time it got boild ,./.... my question is what could be the problem, i'm not sure if the electric fan went on,.... i took of the mechanical one off, i'm drivin it 99% off road, so sould i put the mechanical one on??????/ thx guys
January 6, 200422 yr most everyone is going to tell you o leave he mech. off. i suggest either putting on another electric fan or the original mechanical. you can go to the JY and get an electric fan out of another sube and carefully drill two nw mounting holes in your radiator. but for now, i suggest that you get something, anything, in there to cool it down. heat=bad
January 7, 200422 yr if your stock fan is working, it wont come on till your dangerously close to the red(in my opinion past half is close). and if you are off road, you are prolly going slow sometimes. once it gets hot, its harder to cool down. i would leave that mechanical fan off, and just wire your fan to a switch. either have it on whenever the engine is runing, or keep an eye on the guage, and regulate it yourself, at low speeds. works great, unless somebody other than you drives the car.
January 7, 200422 yr I too am a big fan of wiring your electric fan to a switch. The thermo switches are junk. They go out and you dont know untill you boil over a few times and check the fan. Getting them out w/o busting the tanks on those cheap radiators is a pain too. Dual electric fans would be ideal. There is a reason 12" dual electric fans come on the Legacy. Its just smart
January 7, 200422 yr Hi Konrad, We have a switch installed in my inlaw's '83 EA81.Mandatory in my opinion.I have the feeling nobody wlse drives your car.Otherwise just leave a note telling people to turn it on and off. Cheers!
January 7, 200422 yr Author thanks, the car is droven by me and my dad,.... i still have electrical fans from my 2 sedans, so maby i can put one of those , and make the switch. My plan is to leave the original as it is, no switches, and make the other one on the switch.i almost always drive in LOW so i need cooling,........... take care y'all
