Hey everyone! I'm fairly new to the board & have fallen in love with Soobies! I bought an '87 Justy GL about a year ago & I was hooked! I just bought a '92 Loyale 4x4 wagon & I want to put a 4" lift under it & 14" or 15" wheels. I need help,first of all who carries the lift kits? (I'm gonna have someone else install it).

Next where do you get 14" or 15" four lug wheel? Any & all help or suggestions are well appreciated. I'll be posting pics as the build progresses.

there are SJR as well as others. i have a 2inch SJR lift and 28's w/ peugeot 15inch wheels.

 

best friend is to do a search there has been HUNDREDS of posts about the lift kits and such.

yeah, sjrlift.com (Scott in Bellingham here on the board) sells lift kits... check them out... there are also directions on this board for making one yourself... but if you're having somebody install it then just buy a kit...

 

the old peugeot wheels are the only other 4-lug with the same pattern... they're sometimes tricky to find, but they're out there... look on the For Sale forum or post your needs on the Wanted forum... you can also get some chevy, toyota, or nissan 6-lug wheels and drill some extra holes in them to make them fit your hubs... instructions for that are on here somewhere too...

I would also Look into swaping a D/R trans. in it too. The push button clutch will last for about 10 mins if you go offroad.

If its a manual the push button operates the same mechanisim as a d/r box does for 4wd only without a lever (uses vacuum).

 

But yes, the dual range gearbox will help a lot offroad and is probably more important then bigger wheels, tires or a lift.

It's a 5 spd. manual trans. Since I am an avid surf fisherman, most of my off-roading will consist of driving on flat sand surfaces. I definetly need the ground clearance & the larger tires to keep the under carriage out of the sand. After I test drive it on the beach, I'll see if I feel it needs the D/R swap. How difficult is the swap? Will it pretty much drop right in or is there a lot involved?

The linkage is the only thing you'll have to mess with other than that the axles and everything else should fit right in, no problem. you may need the clutch kit and fly wheel from the D/R .

Have I got a deal for you. I have an 87 GL for sale with all the parts you would need to build yours, or just drive as is. The price I'm asking is a lot less then what you're going to pay in parts.

I'm new at this. What is the difference between an EA81 & EA82? Which D/R tranny would I look for for my '92 Loyale wagon?

Your 92 Loyale would have an EA82.

 

The EA81 is completely different engine, used in the early 80s in what is known as the 2nd generation Subaru. These were equipped with a 4 speed dual range transmission. Not all, but alot.

 

They are the "roundier" more attractive ones.

 

That's just my opinion though.

 

The EA81s are a pushrod engine and the camshaft is timed/driven using gears, whereas the EA82s are overhead cam, and timed/driven using timing belts. There are many other differences, but this is the principle one.

 

Your Loyale is what would be known as a 3rd generation, or EA82.

 

Thusly, you would want to find a 5 speed dual range transmission from a 1985-1989 Subaru of some sort.
