October 3, 200817 yr Bias valve... is that the same thing as a Proportional valve? Possibly try a search for Proportional valve if that is what a Bias valve is? I have been told a proportional valve on the brakeing system goes to the lines that feed the rear brakes. I did my rear conversion this summer but havn't had a chance to install one.. some say you don't need them but that just opens a can of worms so do a search if the Prop. valve is the same as a Bias valve or let me know differently. October 3, 200817 yr I've done a dozen or more conversions on Brats and early EA81 wagons. I never worried about the proportioning valve. Just attached the brakelines at the caliper and bled the system and done. It was never an issue.
October 4, 200817 yr As long as you will never be doing panic braking, you don't need one.... For the rest of us, it keeps the rear from locking before the front. I did a wet-pavement skid test both ways and without the valve your rear axle will pass you - I ended up facing 180 degrees out in the oncoming lane from about a 60 MPH skid. With the valve the skid is straight and tight. GD

October 4, 200817 yr Subaru's use a diagonal braking system, so if you are using aftermarket bias valves you need two - one for each rear circuit. You install them inline with each rear circuit where they exit the body under the bed. GD
October 4, 200817 yr I have the rear disc conversion on my brat and I have had to panic stop several times, and never has it stopped anything but dead straight even on wet or slippery surfaces! That was actually one of the things I was so impressed about after doing the conversion. I didn't change anything as far as proportioning valves nor did I add any! And I have used them with stock size and big tires.
October 4, 200817 yr All EA82T rear discs are not the same. There are two different piston sizes and that affects lockup pressure. GD
