November 13, 200817 yr I had posted this about a week ago and looks like the server switch toasted it. Here it is again... My 1992 Loyale wagon is spraying oil on the underside of the hood. It's near the front, passenger side of the hood and settling some on the aircleaner cover and fan shroud. I can't, for the life, of me figure out where its coming from. A few of you posted some theories and I checked on a couple of them. First..."O" ring seal on dipstick. It was infact shot. I replaced it. Still sprying oil. Second...Cam seal or Oil pump seal. Well, could be, but I looked and looked and looked again and I can't see where it's leaking from. That's about as far as I got so far. Again, it's not "using" any more oil than normal for this motor, mileage, and age. Oil presure reads normal. Car is running fine. Does not seem to be spraying oil on trips around town (3 or 4 miles) just after my 40 mile commute. It seems to be sprying off the pullies or belts but belts are clean. Very little residue on oil filter too. I'm stumped. PCV valve?? I trying to nail this down before the snow flies here in Wisconsin. Help!! goatcheez
November 13, 200817 yr AC compressor oil seals can and do go bad, spraying oil to the underside of hood. Its the compressor oil seals..
November 14, 200817 yr I wonder if the seal to the oil pump could have a split in it somewhere? If it were small enough, I'd think that the oil pump could still provide adequate pressure without it showing up on the gauge. I wish I had a more definite answer for you, but I have been away from my Subie for about 3-1/2 years so maybe someone else will chime in and be of more assistance. I sincerely hope that you get this problem sorted out soon as I know how much of a pain in the..........Hands it can be to work in the cold. Patrick
November 16, 200817 yr I believe ALL EA82 power steering units leak. Usually around the lines coming out of the pump. Which can get on the pulley and sprAy from there.
November 16, 200817 yr Another possibility: oil pressure sending unit? small crack in right breather hose? Just thinking... Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
November 16, 200817 yr Clean it all off. The engine, hood, everything. Drive it then inspect. Engine oil, AC compressor oil, and power steering fluid all SMELL different. After you get some fresh oil spray, smell it. Then look for fresh oil on the engine/components.
