January 18, 200917 yr Ok so i swapped a new motor into my 87 subaru gl, it was carbed and i put a turbo FI motor in it and i got a new fuel pump wiring harness and fuel lines. i am getting fuel and spark but the motor just wont start and i dont know what is wrong, is there something else i dont know about that i have to put in?
January 19, 200917 yr if he did not wire in an ECU (Electronic (emission) Contro Unit) how can he have spark and fuel? Sir, please check the igintion timing. Connect the green connectors by your ECU and use a timing light to see if it's firing near 20 BTDC (Before Top Dead Center)

Will it fire on ether? If you have both fuel and spark, then it sounds like a timing issue. It wasn't clear from your post if you have the FI fuel pump too, but if you replaced the harness and the lines, probably? How long have you tried to start it? I had to crank for a minute or two (not continuously) to get my SPFI EA82 to start after swapping the engine last week -- but after it started, it fires right up in 1 or 2 seconds now -- must have had to purge the lines or something after the swap (though, I kept the old intake manifold... so it would only be the manifold that it would have had to fill with fuel air mixture -- it's possible that the cylinders on the new engine were full of oil or something for storage, that had to be purged).
January 19, 200917 yr Author Yeah i have the new fuel pump to, i also have the computer. I cranked tit for a long time trying to ge it running haha. i will have to check the timing tomorrow or something

January 25, 200917 yr Was the replacement motor running before you put it in? Did you put new timing belts on the engine? If so, you may have installed them wrong.
