I know there are pics on here but i cant seem to find them. Im trying to get a pic of a EA82 under the hood with no motor and a d/r tranny. Looking to see if i could stuff a Goldwing motor and trans under the hood, infront of the current d/r trans.

thanks

Orion

you could do it, and keep the same problems, timing belts, finicky cooling system, crappy carbs, and points, less power gl1000

Well the goldwing is the largest footprint ive been looking at. Ide like a large liquid cooled v twin, shaft drive.

I happen to have the motor out of my GL10, so here you go. If you want any other measurements, I can try and give them to you. Remember, pics can lie and I don't know if I'm measuring in the correct place for your application.

Good Luck!

So, do you Mean the Honda`s six 1.8 Engine?

it is Boxer, isn`t it? ... Could you Post Pics?

with that engine, your Subie Still will be 1.8 but with 6 Cyls... :) ...Sound interesting, I believe that the Hardest part could be to Match it to the Trans...

this is a little OT, bear with me

I've always been curious about those folks who figure out how to join v-8's for tractor pulls, mmmm k?

I'd love to have a small v-8 from two v-four honda interceptor engines... why you could have a 1.0l, 1.5l and 2.0l aluminum v-8 if you could somehow synchronize it all...

just a silly thought the swap idea reminded me of, carry on

I'll just be in the corner with my fisher price work bench

Wouldn't it be "easier" to keep the GW gearbox and use the shaft drive output? hell... put it in backwards and make a mid engine mount Soob.. :)

Another interesting possibility would be the Alfa Romeo 4 valve 1.7 boxer engine similar dimensions to an Ea82,but can be had with 2 dual downdraft throttle bodies.Earlier versions were 1.5 Litres with twin two barrel downdraft Webers of 36mm size,an interesting conversion possibility as well.

Also just starting to make an apearance in New Zealand is a design by Neil Hinze of Sub4 EA81 4 port fame,it appears he has designed and is gearing up for a 4 valve I believe twin Cam conversion for the EA82 motors.

This new variation on the EA82 is rated at 140HP normally aspirated and is for Gyroplane use I believe as Neil manufactures a reduction drive for Aircraft use with Subaru engines, seems as the benefit they are looking for is as with the EA81 is the weight savings over EJ series engines.

Quite hard to find info at the moment as even the old Sub4 website can only be found in the wayback machine on the net,but interestingly Sub 4 and Neil's Gyro reduction drive business are based in the town of Hamilton a few hours drive south of Auckland in New Zealands north Island, probably not a coincidence,Kiwi's seem to make all kinds of interesting stuff at times

The main reason for the motor swap is a better crawl ratio. First gear on the motorcycle engine for the trails, 3rd or 4th on the street? You get my drift. Im just researching engines right now. Goldwing engines are CHEAP.

Man, not out here!! Sounds interesting, let us know when you get started!

good lord, you mean you're thinking of running both gearboxes so that you'll have 5 car x 6 bike for 30 possible gear combinations?

that would be interesting to manipulate, but I can see where it would be useful for rock crawling if that is your gig

I hope you do find a way to do that and post your insanity on the bbs

I have a good picture of mine, but I am not sure how to get it up here. I don't have a URL, it is just on my PC.

Here is a pic of my Loyale with the engine removed. I cleaned it up a bit.
