May 2, 200916 yr About the top 1/3 of the engine case is just a cover with the starter and air filter/box inside. The engine itself is actually very compact like a subaru.
May 13, 200916 yr Author Hey Bill, If you read this could you post a pic of your extended radius rods? Its time to get those 32's on the Sedamn.
July 6, 200916 yr That is going to be pretty sweet, 120hp, it has more power than the stock motor! Should have plenty of torque with the extra trans, enough to turn those 32" tires eh? Here's those pics of the extended radius rods I forgot to post :-\ sorry bout that Those are extended 1 1/2", which was too much, I had to move the motor crossmember forward 1/2" to make them work. I cut the rods, cut a piece of stock 1 1/2" long, slid it into the pipe, then plug welded both sides of the pipe to the radius rods. Should be plenty strong, but I have yet to test it, gotta finish the wiring and get an EJ22 in it. This car aslo has a 4" lift and 31" tires on it -Bill
July 6, 200916 yr It appears 1" is the way to go, its less stress on the CV joints, and you wont have to move the engine crossmember. There will be extra stress on the pivot bushings on the lower arms though unless you modify the control arms or slot the mounting holes on the crossmember. You will still need some gracious bashing/ fender cutting to clear those big meats, and they still might rub a bit... -Bill

August 18, 200916 yr Author Not yet, but soon. Very soon. I cant wait. I want to do it now, a few weeks at the most.
September 3, 200916 yr Author They measure right now 31.5x8. The actual size is the metric bs 265/85R16 maybe? . I extended the front radius rods by 1", the way Bill did his and helped a TON. I still need to cut more out of the rear. When the tire get tucked like in the pic above the car does not want to move at all.

But I figure you want to keep a good approach angle, so I would massage it with the BFH before you whip out the grinder -Bill
September 11, 200916 yr Author Ive finally started the motor swap. Lastnight i took the output driveshaft and the clutch to a friends house with a lathe. Turned down a few parts and welding fixtures. As soon as i get the pics from him i will upload them. I also went to K&K and picked up a 1/4" plate to secure to the front of the subaru tranny to provide a good solid mount for supports. Notice the car sitting a little higher at the moment....Missing something. Edited September 11, 200916 yr by bigo1966

Use a pair of gears to change the rotation.
September 14, 200916 yr Author Well looks like im going to go with plan B. Mount stock motor in trunk. Hydraulically couple engine to trans. Im being serious. Who here are my resident Hydraulic experts?
September 14, 200916 yr Author Ask him what he thinks about the idea. I think I would be in way over my head. After some reading might be a little too much work.
September 14, 200916 yr Really it should not be that hard... But there will be few parts you will need to make it work. -Bill
September 14, 200916 yr Author OK......Ive got it. I cant bail on the motorcycle powered subaru yet. I have to find a right hand side shaft driven motor. That will turn the correct way. Wahoo, im back in the game. Goldwing, CB900, ST1100, etc.
September 15, 200916 yr Right on man, I am really interested in seeing that thing run with the motorcycle engine/trans in it -Bill
