high oil psi

Featured Replies

well I have been searching for info on high oil psi and cant find what I am looking for

I just put a new oil psi sending unit in the old one was showing 0 psi I grounded the wire the gauge pegged so I put the new sending unit in now it is red lined at idol and stays there

my Haynes manual has nothing on how to troubleshoot this is this the oil psi switch or valve how do you troubeshoot too much oil psi thanks for the help

yep, what car, mileage, what motor, any modifications or recent issues/work?

sounds like you may have the wrong replacement switch, it's calibrated improperly or the gauge is bad. i doubt you actually *have* high psi.

more info

Sounds like you might have an oil light switch (on/off). As grossgary said you might have the wrong unit. You need to have a sender for the gauge not the switch for the light.

yes the one I got from the parts place they said was for a gauge not the light do they look the same it looked like the one that came out

It's either a bad sending unit or bad gauge in the cluster. There's specs in the FSM for what resistance values you should apply to verify operation of the gauge.
