so how much weight will a stock ea81 roof rack hold? enough to secure a basket?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of getting a roof basket, but didn't want to have to remove the chrome roof rack on the ea81... but will stress rip the roof rack apart if I attach a basket to it? I know it's screwed on ok (it's the non-adjustable one), but it just doesn't seem THAT beefy...

I just think it'd look nicer to have it attached to the existing rack instead of having to get towers and cross bars to mount it to...

has anybody put a basket on their stock ea81 rack? got pics?

I hauled #100 pounds of Coal up into the mountains on my roof rack.

Worked fine!:)

That thing is anchored in pretty good.

if it helps, all the newer factory racks I have looked at said 100 pounds capacity, so likely 100 would be safe on EA81's as well.

My experience with ea81 racks is that the load Mick has on his is about all you want to put on one.

(I recognize that pic Mick, that would be my back, and that would be out behind the cop shop at the end of the whooptdoo trail)

Just source a rack and basket. All said and done, I'm 230 bucks into my set up. It's rated at 200 lbs, and the basket can be mounted onto my impreza rack too. It came with the mounting hardware for newer cross bars. YOu have a Forester right? ebay special, 130 bucks shipped.
