June 6, 200916 yr Alright so I pulled on the hood cable to open my hood up and it broke, it broke somewhere under the hood, does anyone have an idea of how to get it open without causing any damage to my car?
June 6, 200916 yr If this is an ea82 car you should be able to get to the hood release from under the car and hook it eith a piece of wire or somthing similar. Then when you get the hood open, use the hood release that came out in your hand and hook it to the release mechanism and fish it through the grill. If I had a camera, I would take a picture, but I don't.
June 7, 200916 yr Author Sorry new to posting, its an 87 Rx/ Ea82-t, thx for the tips im trying it right now.
June 7, 200916 yr You should be able to see some cable atatched to the mechinism you need to pull to pop the hood.
June 7, 200916 yr Author Thx a bunch that was easier than I thought. New problem though, I guess when I put my alternator in I didn't connect it :-\. I plugged it in and now I have no power at all. We tried to push start it, and even jump start it, both didn't work. I have been searching the forums for post about the same problem but nothing specific about my problem. I am guessing its a main fuse but when I bought the car I don't have the owners manual, have also checked the forums for that and nothing. I also just put a new battery in so pretty sure its not that.
June 7, 200916 yr If you tapped the hot lead (the bigger wire with looped connector) to anything you will have shorted out and melted a fusible link. I believe you have a fusible link box on the passenger's side of the engine compartment, at least that's where my BRAT's is located. There should be a a few wire underneath the cover. If one has a silver stripe running along it, that's your culprit. I just took a 60a sub fuse and connected it via some wire and wire clips. Twitch
June 7, 200916 yr Author Fusible links are next to the battery, on the drivers side. Little black box that look like old style fuses?
June 7, 200916 yr Little black box that look like old style fuses? Yes. The links are insulated wires with spade terminals on the ends. Each one has a different rating, thats why the different colors.
June 7, 200916 yr has any one modified the wiring for the fusable links and replaced them with blade stlye fuses on these cars? i ************in hate fusible links
June 7, 200916 yr All you need are a few chunks of 10 gauge wire, 4, 1/2 wide spade clips, and a compatible fuse. I'll take pics of mine an upload them tomorrow. Twitch
June 8, 200916 yr Author All you need are a few chunks of 10 gauge wire, 4, 1/2 wide spade clips, and a compatible fuse.I'll take pics of mine an upload them tomorrow. Twitch Alright thx a bunch, that would help a lot I'm stuck right now trying to figure out if my battery is bad now cause apparently I have been running off just my batter, or if my alt is bad or if its the fuses, I do plan on converting the fuses to newer style ones. pics would be great.
June 8, 200916 yr Tah Dah!!!! PIX! This setup should work for you. And that's electrical tape wrapped around the fuse and connecting wires. I cut a hole in the top of fusible link cover so the fuse stuck outside the box. Twitch PS: I'll post pictures of my box soon.
