The '83 FSM calls for 165 SR 13s on the DL,

or 185/70 SR 13s on the GL.

The DL has a 4.5-J x 13 rim with an offset of 55mm/2.17".

The GL has a 5-J x 13 rim with an offset of 42mm/1.65" I'm not sure what the *J* stands for.

26 psi front and back unless you have a full load, then 32psi in the back.

I personally prefer a 185/80 x 13 on the stock spokers with 26psi in the front and 28psi in the back of FERTHER. The speedo is a little slow, but the grunt is still there and the extra clearance makes a big difference. A good compromise for on road/off road.

Dug thru both of my cars looking for the owners manual pamphlet that had the tire information in it but came up empty. Do you have your owners manual books anymore? In there should be a really thin little booklet explaining the warranty.

I just checked the warranty and the owners manual. I couldn't find anything specific to brand or model of tire. Might have to find an old timer at Subaru to get that type of info.

I looked through both my owners manual and warranty booklet, for my 84. The owners manual only mentioned the brand and sizes. The warranty book did say anything about tires

If I remember right........

The tire is a Bridgestone S401. OWL (outlined white letter) designed for mud and snow.

Tire pics

I ran factory tires up until 5 years ago. They are out of production and have been for MANY years.

In the past, I had tire dealers bring them in from great distances just to have the orignal tires. I've paid up to $95/tire in the past.

They just can't be had anymore:boohoo: I've wasted tons of time looking for them to keep my subie factory stock.

Maybe someone has a forgotten stash somewhere?

Good luck,

Glenn

82 Hatch, now has ATV tires.........

01 Forester, bent but not broken!

Other than showing a vehicle at concours show quality levels why would you want to ride on 20 year old tire technology. Tires are so much better now in comfort, handling, efficiency, safety, mileage rating, etc...etc...

Just kind of makes me wonder.

See what a person can come up with when he keeps all the pamplets and owners manuel and window sticker when you buy A Brat Brand new right off the show room floor with just 6 miles on it :D
