  1. Hi all. Bought a 1992 SVX, Pearl White in 1992. LOVED that car. Sold it in 1996 and have regretted it for the past 22 years. I was driving down a Vermont country road and BAM! There she was! No, not my actual love, but a beautiful 1992 Pearl White SVX with 100,000 miles, one owner. Paid $4,800 and am just as in love as I was 26 years ago! Parts are so hard to find, but it's a labor of love! Mark
  2. FWIW, the '05+ generation have a less stellar history than their predecessors, based on what I've read on here. Just a higher # of minor - .05&.10 - stuff. And they still had the potential HG issues due to the EJxxx series engine.... As SOA (subaru of america) got bigger their quality may have taken a hit about this time. Maintenance history? Get the heads checked regardless, and usually best to find a 'real' Subaru mech /tech - not a generic shop.
  3. EA81 rebuild is not viable. Can't get the parts to do it, and you don't have the expertise needed to do a case split, etc. No one has a deck plate to bore it or a jig for doing the main line and cam line. Without doing the main line and cam line the clearances will be complete $hit and it won't last to speak of. Realistically it can't be done without a LOT of money. EJ swap really isn't worth it. You would have to ditch the 4 speed - those are junk with 75 HP. With 135 HP it would just be junk that much faster. Honestly - you want a reliable Subaru - this isn't that. Can't get the parts to do it anymore. Can't find engines - even 5 speed D/R transmissions are hard to get. Get a 1st or 2nd gen Legacy or an early Forester. Still lots of parts for those. GD
  4. Thanks guys! I couldn't be more stoked with how it's turning out. Got the rest of my interior in, put the tailgate on, and drove it to the gas station and for a little cruise. Only a few things left to button up before I can take it back from the cabin and start driving and enjoying it!
