I'm out of town and the wife's OBW is acting up...help me troubleshoot
97 OBW 130,000 miles no history of probs. When she hits the brakes the car stumbles and all gages and dash lights flicker. I'm gonna have the neighbor pull the ABS fuse and test drive around the block. Battery?? Alternator?? xxxxx?? Thanks, Ryan

DOHC EJ25 Timing Belt?
Dickensheets replied to EVOthis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI used a 16" set of channel locks while my helper tightened the nut to spec. For removal there is a bell housing access port at the top. I put a long screwdriver in there to prevent engine rotation and loosened the nuts with the old belt in place. There are other ways to do it also... rd

Oxygen Sensor Tools
Dickensheets replied to legacyak's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXA close quarters O2 sensor tool is a big help. Available at the parts store. Running the engine for about a minute will aid in loosening the sensor. Plus if you are in canada you can warm your hands on the pipes.

found the first thing I don't like about my 97 OBW
Dickensheets replied to mcbrat's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI wonder how hard it would be to cut the holes. Would a hole saw work with a hi speed drill? Then prime the bare metal to stop rust.

Window shatters while driving down freeway!!
Well the glass is in. The most time consuming part was cleaning all the old glass out of the door. For the install it was fairly easy except that the glass needs to be tweaked at various angles to get it to slide down into the door with the mounting brackets attatched. Once in, the up/down needs to be tweaked constantly for alignment of the brackets with the bolt access holes, so don't unplug your interior door panel, just set it aside with the wires connected. (Note: you must install the rear roller guide into it's track, then attach it to the glass after the glass is in place. The roller guide will not fit into the door if its attached to the glass. The mounting nut on the roller guide allows for this, the 2 main bracket nuts do not.) Enjoy.

Yeah she's fine. I will install glass next week and try to do a brief write-up with pics. It will be a first for me.

Window shatters while driving down freeway!!
That's my gut feeling also. But according to my spousal unit, she was surrounded on all sides by cars and no bridges or overpasses around. Who knows...

Window shatters while driving down freeway!!
I ordered one from a local place, $110. Be here in a few days. I pulled out all the remains of the old one and looks pretty straight forward for the install. Anyone done this job recently. Any gotchas??

Window shatters while driving down freeway!!
No body work. Local shops want about $100 for the glass. Any special tools required here?

Window shatters while driving down freeway!!
97 OBW 130,000 miles. My wife was just cruising along and the right rear window shatters and falls out onto the road in heavy traffic. She is the only one in the car. I have not seen it yet, she just called via cellular. Anyway where do I get a new piece of glass for this thing?? This is Texas so junkers don't typically have any subes in the yard. And why does this happen anyway, was she shot at? Ryan

Car Stallllllllling
Dickensheets replied to dome24's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy vote is for some OEM plug wires. Made a huge difference on my 97 2.5l dohc. Cheap enough to try anyway.

mismatched tire wear question: do I replace all 4 or can I get away with just 2?
Dickensheets replied to hop's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI also replace as needed. I wouldn't get all 4 unless there was significant tread depth difference. Also you may find a used tire with similiar wear. It will be cheaper than a new tire also. Look for a shop specializing in used tires.
