  1. I can't believe anyone would try to run that combo with the Dana 35!! Jeeps just look kind of ridiculous with anything much bigger than 35's IMO. Looks like you guys had a good time though, hopefully I'll be able to make it next time.
  2. Like I said before its been years since I've been up to the ONF but I remember there being a LOT of sand. My friends 2WD Ranger got stuck out in the middle of the woods in some of it at about 12am (we were dumb kids at the time).
  3. I'll let you know, I was thinking about checking some auto parts stores for door seals or something to that effect that might work. If not there is a place called Topper King in town that may be able to help.
  4. Anybody ever replaced the seals on one of these. I found one (GenII Hi Top) in a u-pull it yard yesterday but it needs pretty much every bit of rubber on it replaced. Whats the best stuff to use and where can I get it? Also, whats the best kind of paint to use on them, its gonna need that too? Thanks in advance for any help.
  5. Wish I could make it, I've been dying to take the Jeep up there but My week is packed, all the way through to Sunday. Have fun!
  6. I know there are a few others around but definitely not as many as the more interesting regions of the country (terrain-wise). Count me in if you get anything together, I've got an '85 Brat.
  7. Well, I never did get around to selling my Brat. I wanted to come to the XT meet over in Orlando last month but had some other stuff come up last minute. I'd be game for whatever we can put together for a meet. I know there are at least a few other Soob people around, theres a house in Brandon/Riverview that has at least 2 80's era cars, a wagon and a hatch if I remember correctly. Not sure if thats anyone on here or not. The next couple of weekends are kinda busy for me but after that I'm pretty much free.
  8. Yeah, its really better to just run all new speaker wire. You'll also have to run a wire direct from the battery as someone said in order to keep your presets. I have mine hooked up to the factory harness right now; it sounds like crap and I lose all my presets when I turn the ignition off for more than a minute or so. I really only listen to morning shows though, other than that I can't take all the commercials so the radio is off most of the time.
  9. If anybody watches the Simpson's there was a red one in one of the episodes as well. It was the one where school was cancelled for a snow day but Bart had to stay inside (to study I believe). Anyways, when he looks out his window and the "camera" pans around at all the kids playing in the snow there is what appears to be a red Brat 1/2 buried in a snow bank.
  10. IMO Orange looks good on 70's cars. Like the car in "That 70's Show".
  11. I'd be interested if you don't mind a Brat tagging along. I've thought about trying to find a decent XT6 but have never been able to find any info on the handling characteristics or whether it would be a decent auto-x car.
  12. I have to put all of the patio furniture in the garage so the Brat has to stay out side during Charley's little visit. Good, luck to the few other Floridians that are out there, I know most of you are in St. Pete / Coastal areas, let me know if theres anything I can do to help.
  13. Holy ^&*^(% thats insane!! I've seen the white one before, read an article where he raced it against a 911 Turbo and actually had him off the line and for the first part of the run. Never seen this one before though...
  14. Pretty much what everybody else said, I'd be in if the older generation Soobs were included.
  15. Sorry, this was a duplicate post, not sure how to delete it.
  16. Ditto with the junkyards here, I've yet to see a Brat but there are usually 5-6 XT's everytime I go. Speaking of the XT how well do they handle (minus the air suspension thing). I miss having something to take on the twisty backroads and was thinking I might try to pick one up as a project. I've seen a few pics of some on SCCA track days but never really heard much else about them.
  17. So I'm unpacking some stuff in my living room the other night and out of the corner of my eye I see a set of headlights back up in front of the driveway, I look outside and see a Brat targa stripe and my first thought is somebody's stealing mine. I run outside and right when I'm about to yell out "what the **** are you doing!" I notice that my baby's still safe and sound in the driveway! Turns out this guys daughter lives in the neighborhood and he was just dropping her off when he saw my Brat. This was the first person I'd actually met with one (I waved at another one once). He was a real nice guy who'd just bought the Brat (a pretty much rust-free '86) and said he's just in love with them now. Whats even funnier is that I'd talked to him almost a year ago (about something unrelated) while I was working at my old job and on top of that he said he applied for a job at the place I'm working now. Talk about a small world... Anyways, just thought I'd share...
  18. I've thought about doing this as well but there aren't nearly enough Soobs around here. Someone could make a killin' in North Carolina though, seems thats what most people were driving when I was up there last year. Best of luck, it's a lot of work to go out on your own but well worth it in the end.
  19. Awesome, thats what I thought but just wanted to be sure. Thanks!!
  20. I've tried searching and found one thread that says you can use some axles from an EA71 with an EA81. My question is what kind of differences should I be looking for (between the axles, I can't check the position of the starter or the bellhousing on the donor without going back to the yard)? I pulled an axle out of a hatchback (can't remember the year, maybe 84-86) a week or so ago to put in my '85 Brat. As far as I can see they look to be the same size, dia. etc... Would the difference be obvious? I just want to make sure before I try to swap 'em and wind up breaking something because they weren't interchangeable. Thanks for any advice.
  21. Rust free except for one small spot behind the front bumper where it looks like somebody might have hit something small. It looks to just be cosmetic though and could probably easily be sanded down and painted over. It has 153k miles and its about as near to mint condition as I've ever heard of or seen. The guy I bought it from bought it in '87 from the first owner. It spent the first part of its life in Southern California then came down here. He said its always been garaged since he's had it, I usually leave it in mine too. It has a brand new alternator & battery, full exhaust that was replaced less than a year ago and a few other newer parts. Only problems are a DS outer CV joint thats going bad and she leaks a little bit of oil. Drivers seat has the standard little rips but nothing too bad. Dash has one small barely noticeable crack, I always keep a sunshade in it to hopefully preserve it as long as possible. I'll try to post some pictures somewhere soon, I was thinking of trying to put it on E-bay in the next few weeks so I've already got a bunch of pics taken, just need to put them up.
  22. So you're the one who takes the old Soob parts from Cophers ! I've got an '85 Brat. I live in the New (North) Tampa area right now but I'm moving to Brandon in about a month or so. I've seen a few Brats in St. Pete (yellow and a red one) and just last week saw a blue one over here (it was the first one I had seen while I was driving mine so I actually got a wave. Sadly I'll probably be selling the Brat soon since I need the money to do some stuff to the house I'm buying. I'd be interested in meeting a few others before I sell it though so if any of you guys want to get together somewhere let me know...
