  1. Short answer is: you don't!! (Unless you can get it pressure tested before you pay the man - hardly likely in this neck of the woods)
  2. Would that boot happen to be the pass. side one? I had 2 fresh right front boots go away in 6 months, then discovered that the missing heat shield over the catalytic converter was the culprit. Made my own and the boot has been fine ever since.
  3. Mine are doing the same thing exactly (92 Loyale) Since I don't have a handy parts car to swap from, anyone got a different fix?
  4. Anyone know the horn wiring color or relay location?
  5. Got my new resistor block today (for my 92 Loyale) from Ironman Subaru in Penticton. Can$45.00. About US$44.00 at todays exch. rate (We're gaining on you Yanks:) ) Anyway I noticed it had a bead of some sort of hard white substance laid across each coil and I'm curious if this is a recent mod to improve the durability or what?
  6. Thanks 86, by pedal box you mean a switch operated by the pedal as opposed to somewhere else under the hood? I looked briefly at the pedal but couldn't see any switch or wiring.
  7. Now that I am convinced that my "new" 92 Loyale wagon no longer has any horns (front end body repair evident), I'd like to know where the horn relay is, as well as the horn wiring color, so I can install a new, loud one. Also where the clutch interlock switch is so I can bypass it. (I'm way too old to be reminded to not start a car in gear without de-clutching and I don't need a nanny switch at my age. My Suzuki 850 doesn't have one anymore, either:)) Once again, thanks to everyone here for the info - I swear I'm gonna get a FSM soon!!
  8. Thanks everyone. Reveeen, appreciate the offer, but I'm picking up a heater resistor block at the Penticton dealer so I believe I'll get the seals from them as well since they seem to be inexpensive. FWIW, the resistor block is C$48.00 at the dealer.
  9. Thanks, people. I had a hunch the CAS code would show if the engine wasn't running. If someone will walk me through the re-set procedure - I gather it's not just a simple battery disconnect?
  10. Thanx reveeen and markjw. Anyone got part numbers for these seals?
  11. I am ordering a rear wheel bearing assy for my "new" 92 Loyale 4wd. My local auto parts store (who are very good - not Autozone or Canadian Tire type) quoted me on an SKF part# GRW142 at Can$110 (US$100) So here I am double-checking as I only have a Haynes manual covering EA81 and early EA82's. Is this all I'm gonna need or are there seals and other parts involved, and is the price reasonable?
  12. OK, got the following (historical) trouble codes: 11, 13, 21,24,31. First two refer to crank angle sensor. 21 is coolant temp sensor. Don't know what 24 is. 31 is throttle position sensor. That's according to the USRM item for a 89 EA82 SPFI so my questions are: 1) same codes for a 92?, and 2) car runs great after 2-5 minute warmup, CEL comes on only at cold start with a very erratic idle, should I worry?
  13. Thank you, thank you. Much appreciated. Paul
  14. OK, just to be sure of the procedure, connect the white connectors,(ign. off), turn ign. to "on", read stored trouble codes at the ECU LED, that's all. Right??
  15. Thanks guys. hush, I sorta guessed they might be for a/c. Mike, I don't have any black and white connectors in that group pictured. Do you mean the pair of white ones or is there another set I have missed? (And thanks for your patience re: multiple answers:), yes, I want the history as the CEL is momentary at cold start and the fast idle is all over the place) )
  16. Need a little help here. 92 Loyale 5-sp, 4wd, NA engine, no A/C. Which of these connectors do I hook up to read the trouble codes? Green/green, white/white, or??? What are the yellow and black multi-terminal female conn.'s for? The other pic shows a couple of orphans originating in the Alt. harness. Can anyone help with these?
  17. OK, so I now have a "new" 92 Loyale - 5sp 4wd wagon; plus the old, extremely rusty, 84 fwd wagon. The 84 car has a new rad, waterpump, front axles, fuel filters, filler pipe, alternator, battery, a decent tranny, wheel bearings, brake components, etc. Not knowing what will interchange between the two cars, I'm not sure whether to part out old "white n'rust" or try and sell it for a few hundred$$. The EA81 engine is fine, as is the clutch and trans. What would you do? What will interchange?
  18. Many thanks, folks. Last but not least, why is the rear wiper motor as corroded and frozen as the one on my 84, yet the tailgate on this car is not rusted at all? Must be a way to seal the shaft on these things?
  19. Dave, thanks for the info. I certainly agree there's no substitute for the FSM (Have 'em for my other toys) and I'll try to get one. I was afraid the horns might have been down there as I found a disconnected 2-wire plug with the wires heading in that direction while I was installing a new park/turn light assy. on the driver's side. Still didn't work. Anyone care to tell me where the relay(s) are? And the diagnostic connector?
  20. Hi, all Finally found a replacement for "white&rust" 84. Decent 92 4wd 5speed. I asked a few questions earlier and inadvertently posted to new gen forum. Got good answers but still have a couple of mysteries to solve. Now don't laugh, but WHERE IS THE HORN LOCATED??? I can't see it, I know it should be attached to the rad support or nearby. It doesn't work, the fuze is good, so I seriously think it's been removed. (The car has recent paint and bodywork) The other question is (are) what color is the horn harness, where is the diagnostic connector on a 92, and what is the readout procedure? (I have a Haynes EFI book with codes but their procedure doesn't compute) Along those lines, a schematic would be invaluable to me. Lastly, your suggestions for a service manual better than Haynes? Thanks up front 'cause I know you people will tell all:)
  21. Thanks everyone. One question still left - the tilt wheel lever. chef tim, it is the height adjusting lever that is not moveable. The (top) release lever works fine. The wheel is set at it's highest position and the lower lever will not swing down at all. Anyone?
  22. Andy, very funny. I did find the horn BUTTON, it's the fricken HORN location I'm lookin' for. And yes I realize I posted to the wrong Forum (hit the wrong BUTTON!:-\ ) but I don't know how to move it. Need help from a moderator. Paul
