  1. I could explain to you how the FWD fuse works, but how it works is rather irrelevant. Either way, your gas mileage will not improve if you put in that fuse and it's not meant to be used except for diagnostic purposes. If you want a car that gets better mileage, get another car or convert yours to FWD with a FWD tranny (and don't forget to remove all the rear drive parts).
  2. Could modify one from a impreza or get one off another Legacy. Might have to wrap up 200 in the whole deal...but probably less.
  3. Well, it will bolt right in. It will bolt to your transmission and it will bolt to your engine cross member. Now, wiring may be a little bit more of a hassle, but it could be done. I'd find an EJ22T and transplant that in instead
  4. I'm going with age on this one. The 4EAT's, when they get old and worn out, get sloppy. My car's transition into drive isn't exactly the smoothest either. I would just make absolutely sure that you're not moving when you drop the car into drive and that you don't have your foot on the gas pedal.
  5. Timing and ignition is all electronic so I don't know exactly what he could do there. I wonder if it it just pinging a little. Although, lifters pick the strangest times to make noises.
  6. Start with the basics. Plugs, wires, air filter. After that, you could go to an intake mod (ie replace the main intake box with a smooth pipe).
  7. Did you guys check to see that the switch isn't broke? Just because it flips the module on doesn't mean that it's staying on.
  8. Ehh. You have a 95. The lock system for the 90-94 is different than the 95
  9. Inside the fender is the Intake Resonator. If you're in Mass, I'd keep it only because if it rains a bunch and you suck air into your intake, that's not a good thing.
  10. I'd do a fluid flush and replace with new, good gear oil. If that doesn't quiet down the grinding then you'll have to go to more drastic measures. If it's power lock equipped...check to make sure that the door locks are plugged in on the inside of the doors. Or, is it that they don't even unlock with the key?
  11. Shhhhh. So have I, but I can't tell people not to do it when I do it as well Shhhhhh. :-p
  12. I wonder if one of your vent valves got stuck open. You don't "top off" your gas tank, do you? It's not so good for the Subaru's and their AWD gas tanks.
  13. What in the hell is that tube coming out of your fender? LOL.
  14. I find that removal of most emblems requires use of fishing line, a blow dryer, and some glue remover.
  15. That's exactly how it says to do in the owners manual for my 91 AWD.
  16. No. No 1990's came with Turbo's. In 1991, they were only in Sedans (Sport Sedan to be exact). From 92-94 they were also in wagons called "Touring Wagons" which only came with Automatics (while the Sport Sedan continued to be offered in both 4EAT and 5MT variations). It's definitely worth 1k if you need it just as a daily driver. Hell, try to talk her down to 900.
  17. I've been using Fram for a long time now...no problems.
  18. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't want to take the chance.
  19. Define how long it takes to get cold and how cold it gets. What kind of conditions are you in when you're trying to use the A/C? The R134 systems sometimes take a little while to get cold, but when they do, it's like the North Pole in your car.
  20. Any EJ series motor will work with this car. Granted, only Post 95 EJ22's will plug in directly. Removing the driveshaft isn't that hard. I still don't like towing a AWD car without all 4 wheels off the ground - driveshaft removed or not.
  21. Nope, LSi wasn't a turbo. It's probably an LS because the LSi had a standard Auto.
  22. Busted knock sensors don't make the car run any differently. Mine was broke for years before I got a new one and it didn't affect MPG at all. It's a very easy fix, just attack it from the left side of the engine and use a 12 or 8" extension.
  23. It happens I think we all agree in consensus: If you're used to having a minivan, you're not going to like the Outback or Forester because it's definitely a downsize. However, if you're willing to deal with that and maybe downsize your stuff as well, you'll be all right with an Outback. Just FYI, my parents put both my brother and I at small ages in an 86 GL sedan and had no problems toting us and our stuff around.
