  1. Well I cant get the squelling to come back. It only happens every now and then. It sounds like a brake squell, but I dont have to be braking to make it happen. It usually starts in 1st and continues thru 2nd, then it goes away (at least I cant hear it anymore). I am wondering if it could have something to do with a stick caliper or a sticky hill holder, but my brakes dont squell normally. I dunno. I can start the car in 3rd pretty smoothly. I have to hold the clutch a lil longer but I can get it to go w/o bucking. I read somewhere that if it starts pretty smooth in 3rd then the clutch is slipping. Although if I hold 2nd gear up to 5k and gas it, there is no slippage, atleast the rpms arent jumping up eratically. Another thing I noticed. First gear is hard to get into, but if I take it out of 1st and keep the clutch down I can go into 1st very easily, and keep going in it easily. Its just the first time in that is hard. When I am in 5th gear, its hard to come out of 5th. I am going to be changing the gear oil this week to redline MT90.
  2. Well I have done a search and read some threads. I have what i think is clutch chatter/ judder and other issues. If I let the clutch out slow at a low rpm it bucks/shakes. Now if I give it a lot of gas and let the clutch out slow it is fine. This also happens in the 1-2 upshift most of the time. I have a chirping sound, which I am not sure if its the clutch....I am going out later to find out if I can diagonse it as a clutch (t/o bearing) problem. Now for the last problem, I grind reverse every single time I try to go in it. From past experiences with other cars I was recomened to go into 1st then reverse. I do this with the roo and it seems ok, although I did grind once when doing this. I still love having a roo ....the car has 113k on it and have no idea if its the original clutch, and it doesn't slip at all
  3. Its awesome what this car can do...I know the pictures don't look like much but we got into some pretty difficult situations, just no picture too show them. Pretty steep uphills with big rocks and some pretty deep mud that it ended up pulling us out.
  4. thanks, it has almost 113k....I am the 4th owner. I couldn't believe that, the car made a full circle now that I brought it home. 1.)NY -> 2.)MA -> 3.) NH-------> 4.) NY.....Going to test its capabilities today and get some pics.
  5. SOB......Well I now am a proud owner of a Outback:banana: Sorry rwedy I love the seats, very comfortable. More pics to come tomorrow....I cant upload any pics to the photo gallery on this board? I have to upload to wetodd, then copy and paste the picture itself. I registered to that photopost which powers the photo gallery on this board so maybe that will work, but off to bed for now.
  6. So I am just getting back from my 19hr trip to New Hampshire to get the outback. I decide since I was in NH I would take in the scenary, see some cool stuff and get some good pictures. The Great Bay national Wildlife refuge is about 20 minutes away from the dealership. So after getting the car and a bite to eat we were on our way. I got off at the wrong exit and drove around the bay for about 20 minutes (thanks mapquest). We back-tracked to the exit and asked the gas station where we needed to go. Couple more exits later, and now about an hour wasted when it should have only been 20-25 to get there, I pull up to the entrance......
  7. So I just came across some info......The cold weather package includes heated seats, mirrors, and a engine block heater. Since I know I am getting 2/3 will it definately be the whole package. I am guessing the dealer didnt realize it had a block heater...or maybe it doesn't? Would I just look for a plug somewhere in the front of the engine bay, near the bumper?? All I do is plug it in for the night, right?
  8. Yea its leather with heated seats and mirrors and a 5spd...Exactly what I wanted besides the leather. I am actually in Central New York (syracuse).... You guys out there in CO, Utah, WA, Cali, definately can get more use out of the roos then me, but the winters here can get pretty bad....But hey, Ill be in CO in a little over a year anyways **knocks on wood**
  9. Keep an eye out on ebay....I saw a couple headlight lenses on there yesterday, prolly still there today, although I dont know what you're driving.
  10. The different size in tires/wheels (the whole circumfrence of them) will screw with something. You did the right thing. If you have a FWD-only car you should never put a donut on the front as it will mess up the driveshafts or something. Sorry I don't know what specific mechanical part it has to do with, but I am sure that someone that does will chime in. Maybe something to to with the diff since one side will spin faster than the other
  11. There is a decent amount of subies around here, but I was looking for a 96 outback exactly, and it seems that there are no 96s around here. So I gotta make the 6hr drive to get exactly what I want, well besides the leather. But then again, mud will come off the leather a lot easier than it would on cloth. What is Zap's scrren name...I did a search for Zap but nothing came up.
  12. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally found a OBW at the right price. Going to pick it up in NH on Saturday. Its got leather which I dont really prefer, and the 6 hour drive is going to be long; but I am so happy I am getting a outback. I'll post pics once I get it home. Anyone have a lifted EJ? I plan on lifting it, but I would like to talk to someone who owns a lifted EJ.
  13. I dont know what a 99 sube dash looks like, but it should be as easy as popping the dash trim off(plastic piece that cover all controls in the center of the dash). Once that is off all you need to do is unscrew the deck, which should only be 4 screws/ bolts. Once this is out you cant put the new deck in. To put the new one in you need a wirring harness to connect the aftermarket wirring to the factory wiring. You put in the cage (the cage is a metal box/ cage that the deck slides into, it is like 1/3 of the depth of the actuall deck itself, it comes with the new deck and should be on it already, you have to take the deck out of the cage.) The cage is which locks the deck in place, there are tabs that you need to puch out on all sides so it stays in the dash. Once the cage is in you slide the new deck in and it locks in place. You can only get it out if you have the "keys" which unlocks it from the cage. This is why the tabs have to be pushed out on all sides. The cage holds the deck, which is held in the dash by the tabs on the cage, therfore it cant be stolen or fall out when you hit the gas. The only way to get the deck out is by sliding the "keys" through the sides of the cage, but the cage still sits in place. Its pretty easy, sorry if I dont make any sense.
  14. yea, younggtp@hotmail.com thanks
  15. Definately heaper than an Audi....Thanks for the info, can't wait to move !!!!!!!!
  16. Thanks, but i am going to hold out for a 96 5spd 2.2....Thanks again but I am going back to school, which means I'll will be broke. I gotta wait it out for the most reliable IMO. From what I have read, a 96 5spd 2.2 is what I want. 96 over 95 because of the 1.5" lift ; 96 over a 97 because of the non interferance engine. and of course a 2.2 for minimal upkeep. cheers
  17. that puddle pic rocks....if my mouse had a working right click it would be my new wallpaper
  18. I can get one at a dealer auction, hopefully *knocks on wood*...so pretty cheap, like 2 grand
  19. o wow, my bad....I should have mentioned I dont even own a sube....yet
