The ANTI-Gas mileage thread
fnlyfnd replied to LosDiosDeVerde86's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBuy a mid 90 vw golf diesel (not tdi), covert it to veg. oil, get a friend with a restuarant, never pay to fuel your car again, and shut up. I considered this (and my father has a fish fry - all the oil I will ever need), but I dont regret buying my 96 outback to last me the next 12yrs until I start my life career. Better yet, ride a bicycle to work. Help the enviroment, your health, and your wallet.

The ANTI-Gas mileage thread
fnlyfnd replied to LosDiosDeVerde86's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI get about 20mpg city... 1996 2.2 5 spd, I got rid of a 27/38mpg VW for it. I am very happy since I know I can go pretty much anywhere without a problem, and its a hell of a lot bigger (which is better).

Another check engine query
fnlyfnd replied to Bernie Dwyer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXobdII diagonistic tool. try Autotap, although I am not sure if they do imports. If the knock sensor is bad or loose it result in a power loss. The timing will be pulled due to the computer seeing knock, and will feel just like fuel starvation. I bet it is the knock sensor since thats what the diagnostic computer said.

fun in the snow
fnlyfnd replied to fnlyfnd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust some random trails that are near my house. There are a few o-roading trails around here. A couple of those pics in the first set are actually part of a big set of biking/ atv trails. Well most of the trails around here are shared with mtn bikes, and atvs. I've had both atvs and jeeps riding around once while I was riding, just one jeep (stock and stuck for a couple minutes). Those damn atvs though, they'll come around the cornere flying. You really gotta be ready, and keep your ears open

HA!!!!! First!!! (Attention Austin) day light photos added page 2
Thats awesome. how do you get such ground clearance with just struts and springs?? I know the tires will give you a inch, but where do the other inches come from - what struts/springs do you have?

fun in the snow
Fully prepared with a shovel, I found a unplowed parking lot. It was prolly 6+ inches, and extremely fun. When I got there, their was a kid with an old lincoln trying to have some fun. He only got about 5 ft. in, he was very thankful that I had a shovel, although he had one. heres a link, dont be lazy its good stuff. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/841919/1 there wasn't a single track before I got there

Rear wiper parking
fnlyfnd replied to dave1rr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had a problem w/ a previous car with the wipers, they would kinda do whatever they wanted. I bought a used motor rump roast. for it, then i realized it was the hold down nut. I just tightened it up and all was good.

warming up?
fnlyfnd replied to 97OBW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt would definately take the engine longer to reach temp while idiling. The only good thing idiling does, is warm up the oil w/ minimal load on the engine, and warm up the coolant so you have heat. When I was refering to the temp gauge, i was refering to the coolant temp, which the block heater keeps warm.

warming up?
fnlyfnd replied to 97OBW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI notice a quicker warm up waiting to turn on the defrost after a minute of driving, this is using a block heater. - The temp gauge is at normal operating temp within the first minute. I always wait at least a minute (up to 3-4, if its really cold) before driving when its cold, the oil needs to warm up a little.

warming up?
fnlyfnd replied to 97OBW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwouldn't the defrost essentially keep the enginne cooler, longer? It turns on the fans, which would be blowing cold air all over the engine bay, and thru the rad. My tranny doesn't like being cold either. I have some mt90 and syncromesh, just sitting in my garage. Waiting for a decent day to do it.

Wow Awd Is Great
fnlyfnd replied to LLD's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXO man unplowed lots are the best. There is a church that is never plowed (except sundays) and i hit it up almost everytime it snows. We got some freezing rain yesterday, which then turned into 3-4 inches over night. I didn't have a shovel or my cell phone on me so i didn't want to get to nutty. I got about 20ft in and then got stuck, I could hear all the ice crushing under the tires. I figured I would play it safe this time around since i was not prepared at all, and hungover. It was about 8inches deep, but the ice halfway thru made it a pain. I ended up reversing it and getting out of there. Last time we got a few inches (no ice) I spent prolly 10 minutes just driving the crap out of the wagon, it was so much fun, I had to stop cause there was too many pavement patches .

Drive Belt/Timing Belt same or different?
fnlyfnd replied to Urban Coyote's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX97+ are interference....60k intervals, although there is a 100k timing belt. The timing belt is not "in" the engine. It is behind the belts you can see, under the plastic cover. it is covered as to not get any debris in it, since it is very important.

hella 500's

hella 500's
fnlyfnd replied to 97OBW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIts way easy, dont pay. All you need is crimpers, or plyers with good leverage, and a t-tap. My lights came with the tap. http://www.grandamgt.com/blazerinstall-pfyc.htmlYou can see the wing nut I was talking about in the first pic, wiring stuff starts at #8 ....click on the pic in #8 - the white line is the one that connects to the 12v factory line, which alows you to use the factory switch If you have to fab up something to mount them (drilling, cutting metal, etc...) you might want to have it done. I would give it a go first though, if its not too hard to do then go for it. You should be able to get away just using a power drill.

hella 500's
fnlyfnd replied to 97OBW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell this was on a gtp, so its completely different. There was a wing nut in the center back of the light. All you do is twist and it moves it up or down. Ill get the instructions on how to wire them so you get the idea. Its the same idea, just a different car.

hella 500's
fnlyfnd replied to 97OBW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had driving lights in my fog light holes (blazertech 3200). They were super bright and I had to have the left aimed at the ground about 15ft in front of me. I raised the right side slightly. Well actually I aimed both sides on a wall the correct way, then I got flashed by oncoming traffic, so I adjusted the left side down, and all was good. IF YOU GET FLASHED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC, GO AIM THEM DOWN RIGHT AFTER. You should only have to splice the factory 12v wire for the switch (if your planning on using the stock switch0

hella 500's
fnlyfnd replied to 97OBW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXsweet, so you can wire it however you want. I personally would want it to work on both. I like fog lights with low beams. my theory is as long as the lights are aimed correctly, there is no such thing as too much light. Speaking of that I had some duech on my rump roast on the way home with his highbeams on(unknowingly). If I didn't like my car so much I would have brake checked him.
