  1. I don't have any personal experience with that model, but yes, I believe that is one known for headgasket problems. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it though. Just keep the cooling system in top condition.-Louis- '04 ForesterXT 5spd '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  2. 25 bucks doesn't seem so bad considering the possibilities of this stuff. I just wonder if it would void my warranty. Don't wanna give SOA any excuses for not repairing my engine if the need arises...even if I know it is better than what they put in it at the factory! -Louis- '04 ForesterXT 5spd '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  3. Sounds pretty friggin' appealing to me providing no unexpected nasty side effects crop up over time. Didn't see a price. How much is it? -Louis- '04 ForesterXT 5spd '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  4. Ahh, didn't register in my mind it was running ok between failures. I thought it was still just sputtering along. That would almost surely rule out timing belt issues. I think the 4ppr issue is definitely a clue IMHO. I wouldn't rule out a coil issue, also. Otherwise I would be willing to bet a wiring connection problem. Good Luck and keep us posted-you've got my curiosity up. -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  5. I may be totally off base here, but I seem to recall something about having a timing belt slip causing position sensor codes to be thrown. Have you checked your valve timing? -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  6. Well, Paul, one of these days we might actually be able to hook-up. But, today I commited to a Breast Cancer Benefit for one of our friends. Next Saturday looks pretty clear so far, though. -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  7. I don't know if the turbos work the same way, but I can tell you on a non-turbo '91 Loyale, if the hose to the Idle Air Control isn't on (or not on right), it will do pretty much what you describe. Mine will start, run normally for a few seconds and then drop dead. Hope this helps. Good Luck! -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  8. The only thing I can see wrong with that is if you were in an accident. The pump might continue to run unless you are physically able (uninjured) to shut it off...potential fire hazard. Devise some kind of safety shutoff? Just a thought. -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  9. Just do it, man!!! Pull that Mutha!!! -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  10. Cool! You got a solenoid from the junkyard? Did you use the same meter or a different one? -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  11. Hmm... those numbers sound kinda screwy to me... calibration shouldn't be affected that much by changing the battery. Don't suppose you have access to another meter. Even the cheap radio shack ones will do for this application. -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  12. I don't know what model fluke you have, but mine (Fluke87) reads "OL" when held up to air...basically open circuit. It should read at or near zero when the probes are touched together (yes, closed circuit.) Your reading of 4M means four megaohms (which is high resistance) is something I haven't seen before in a working meter but will probably do for this application. When you touch the probes to the terminals of the solenoid, you should see in the neighborhood of 35 ohms- no "M" or "K"should be seen next to the ohms symbol. Hope this helps. -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  13. The only time this has ever happened to me (and it has happened a few times) is when I am working on a car and not bothered to tighten the bolts holding the cables to the battery posts. When you attempt to engage the starter, it draws so much current that one of the terminals often arcs out. Moving the cable will get a good enough connector to get dash lights, etc., but you will lose it again if you try to start the engine again. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and the connectors are on REALLY TIGHT. Good Luck! -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  14. Well shoot, I still haven't gotten ahold of the Bratkart lady. I'm going to try again in a few minutes. If I don't reach her tonight, I'll try one more time in the a.m.. If that fails, I guess I'll have to scrap Operation Bratkart for this weekend. I can still come down your way regardless. Let me know. -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  15. If you think you can break away, we would probably be back in the Bridgeport area by about 1:00 or so giving us most of the afternoon to take care of other projects. This is all tentative until I can verify the lady is available for us to come by and get the kart. I'm planning to give her a call tomorrow. Be advised, though, that my mode of transportation for this trip could best be described as "third world". Are your tetanus shots up to date? Cheers -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  16. Hmm, Sunday I have to be in Woodbridge at 9am to pick up a part for one of my cars and then was thinking of attempting to pick up Skip's Bratcart since it is supposed to be warm (relatively speaking, of course). What time Sunday did you have in mind? -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  17. Ah, yes, but in the blink of an eye it's gone:( I got your answering machine this a.m. but I might try to give it another shot this afternoon. I'm tied up until at least 2 today, but late afternoon and tomorrow is a possibility. During the week, I am USUALLY out of work by 3:30 if that helps any. This coming Saturday I have somthing going at 2pm. I would have to be home around noon so the morning might be good. Sundays are usually fairly open. Let me know what is good for you:drunk: Cheers -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  18. As always, I'm game to come down. We just have to sync our schedules. -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  19. You got it! That's the one! -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  20. Nope...and yes. That is what makes them easy to tell if they are repairable. As Skip said, the wires tend to break off right at the entrance to the housing. If that is the case (which is most likely), they can usually be repaired. If the winding is burned open, forget it. The housing is molded to the guts and if you can get into it without destroying it, you are definitely my hero. Cheers, -Louis-
  21. I have had pretty good success repairing these. If you can't find one at a boneyard, feel free to send it my way and I can tell in minutes if it is repairable, usually. Good Luck! -Louis-
  22. Yeah! A four-wheel-drive toaster! Cool! -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  23. Most bang for your buck, easy to work on and they still have personality. -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
  24. Running D/R? Heck, I would think the drivetrain alone would be worth that much. -Louis- '91 Loyale 4wd 5spd Wagon
