  1. I just recently did a engine swap and a reseal for my 87 GL Wagon. Now that it is back together and running great, it is smoking........a lot! It only happends when you are on the gas hard and if you are going down a pass or something. What could cause this? It also seems like it is losing alot of oil for a fresh reseal. Thanks a ton!!!!!! Scott
  2. That thing would probably kick my trucks @$$ off-road. Maybe not until you get lockers, but I would sure put my money on the subaru. Nice Rig!! Scott
  3. Sticky brake meaning the passenger side front tire will darn near lock up on you for no reason. Using the e-brake makes it worse and to get it to let go you just have to drive around and smash the brake petal a vey times and it usually lets go. I will check the hill holder tonight when i get home. Thanks!!!! Scott
  4. My passenger side front brake is sticking on my 87 GL wagon. I figured the caliper was bad, so I re-did the whole brake system (calipers, pads, and rotors) and put it all back together and it is still doing it. Does anyone have any idea's as to what is causing this? Thanks! Scott
  5. There is nothing wrong with any mechanical aspect of the car (I.E. Cats, fuel pump, etc) It has something to do with the motor. The carb is brand new so it's fine, timing is good, idle is fine. I'm leaning towards a vaccum (sp?) leak somewhere but would that cause it to run poorly? Thanks! Scott
  6. I just pulled a carbed motor out of an 85 GL wagon, resealed it and put it in my carbed 87 GL wagon. Now that it is in and running, it seems like it's really low on power and it's sputtering quite a bit. Other than that, it runs good. Thanks for your help!!!! Scott
  7. My sister massively (Spelling???) overheated her 87 GL wagon and I got a new motor for it (Out of a 1985 GL, so I guess it's not new but it's new to me) So far I have ripped the motor down to just the block assembly (Still complete, I didn't mess with pistons or anything because I have been driving the car the motor came out of for a few days so I know it runs good) But I was wondering what all I should replace while it's apart. So far I bought head gaskets, oil pump seal kit, intake manifold gaskets, exhaust gaskets, and a new water pump. Is there anything else I should replace while it's torn apart? I just want the motor to be in tip top shape when I put it in. Thanks! Scott
  8. How low will the compression be if the head gaskets are blown? What about for cracked heads? Thanks!! Scott
  9. My sister was driving her 1987 GL Carbed wagon home from a friends (about 15-20 miles away) at about 2:00AM this morning. Right after she left his house, she called me and left a message complaining that her car wouldn't start but that she finally got it running. Then at about 3:00AM I get a phone call from her saying that the car over heated on the off-ramp into town. I went and rescued her and the car and upon inspection of the car today, I realized that the heater return hose was blown completely apart. I would guess that she drove the car at least all the way home on the freeway with no coolant because when I picked her up, the car was still very hot and smelled of burnt oil. Today I replaced the hose and inspected and changed the oil, there was no sign of any water or frothing so I thought I was going to get lucky and not have big problems. But I noticed that there seems to be coolant dripping very little at a time off of the timing covers. The car run great in the upper RPM's, but it will hardly idle (like 200rpm) or if you lug it, it won't want to run very well. My main question is what do you guys think the problem is? How much damage could I be expecting? Thanks a ton and sorry for the long post!! Scott
  10. Now it's time for a custom bumper!!!! You could incorporate your brushguard into the new bumper also. Scott
  11. the ecu doesn't have to be plugged in, on my 82 wagon you could unplug the ecu while driving, before starting, or whatever and it still ran great. Hope this helps! Scott
  12. You all need to live in Idaho where your license plate belongs to you and not the car, then whoever bought the car is illegal after 3 days (A bill of sale acts as regestration for 3 days) But then again, it is the potato state!!!!
  13. I filled the bed of my brat with roofing shingles, it was sitting on the bump stops, but still did great! Scott
