YES!!
depends mostly on which trans and final drive ratio is being used, and the road speed
ea81 engine with ea82 intake and carb, xt6 90A alt. replaced ea82t engine.
the standard trans that the '86 gl-10 turbowagon has is 3.7
while driving use 4th as top gear unless going over 70 mph!!
seems to help to wind out 2nd til 4k, you get the feel for shifting after some experimentation
60 mph approx = 3k in 4th which is where the ea81 is happy

after reviewing my pictures, procedure was
removed radiator to flush separately and clean fins, re-solder top support
NOTICE: '78 BRAT uses 1/2" heater hose
garden hose female fitting inserted into heater hose to flush system
1-3 head drain plug removed
by plugging different ports, flushing direction can be manipulated
flush until water runs clear in every direction
switch to PG coolant
[D] specific purpose control enclosure cover used to cover weber air filter
-
read the table to see which sealant is to be used there
-
remove head drain plugs, disconnect lower rad hose and heater hoses
pic later
-
remove air cleaner
look down carb throat to see if choke opens
back off idle adjusting screw
adjust "idle mixture" air bleed screw to lower rpm
follow procedure to reset co % .....

if'n it's gen1 body style, NO FIT as approx 15" from axle cl to mudflap
however 23.25" 59cm diameter does fit good which is 155/xx/13
unbolt fender and measure before or zzz is used to save yourself

ea82t powered xxx can be fun and reliable if used correctly
the boost works best for accelerating onto interstates quickly and not losing speed going up hills or mountains
with a good intake, it is fun to hear WOOOSHHHHHH
FIND a cheap ea82t powered xxx with a bad engine and install an ea81 for RELABILITY, and ea82 intake and carb for "performance"
if you want a "workhorse" engine, ea71 can't be beat

occasionally my '78 BRAT will let out a huge smoke cloud upon startup and will last up to a minute?
runs fine, but he valves?? on this motor seem louder than any of my other Subs and several people have asked me why they sound so loud... beats me LOL.
I wonder who else has mystery noises and smoking issues
CHECK the AIR FILTER

Remember, the SVX has a rear LSD, so it has another wheel in the back that your BRAT probably doesn't have (unless you put a LSD on it).
when I read that
yes, my wagon does better than your brat
when first reading topic, I thought of the "funny widnows"

restore
modify
pick one!
very few parts are readily available, which is why most are modified to install newer parts
they are fine for smaller people great for around town decent offroad can be tiring during 3 hour 160 mile continuous road trips definately a keeper
Does the EA-81 have the power to push a 5 speed?
in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
