  1. Okay, I found the screws you were talking about(only two though, just fyi), but now I seem to be hung up on the door handle. Do I need to take this off too or just pull harder? If I need to take it off, how do I do that? Thanks, been a big help for me!
  2. Title pretty much says it. I want to remove it from my 93 legacy wagon. I want to try and pop the door back out a bitfrom teh indside. B/c of my wreck, the door is crammed in and barely operable. I'm thinking if I can bend it back out a bit, It'll help usability and reduce wind noise and help with gas mileage on my road tip tomorrow. I've tried before, but was unsucessful. Are there any bolts I need to remove. I tihnk when I tried before I just popped all teh tabs out and tried that way. I was only trying to figure it for when I was going to replace the speakers, but since I didn't have them ready to replace at the time, I didn't bother with them. Thanks,
  3. So is the drain plug for the tranny about one foot directly back from the oil drain plug? I just wanna make sure. I live in Murphy's law....
  4. Yeah, I was already planning on changing the oil. I was going to to that next, actually. Busy day today. Got get everything ready for the road trip tommorow! I'll check it out and see if I can't get that done before I go. If I can't then I'll do it over in Idaho. Thanks!!
  5. Dealers usually cost me money, which I really don't have right now. I'm not disagreeing with anyone who says it's the speedo cable, I was just curious why the oil looked so dark at the spot of the leak. It didn't make any sense that it would be the engine oil. Anyway, I went out a checked the fluid levels and sure enough, it was overfilled, by quite a bit, I must add. It's been leaking since shortly after I got the car (sept 04) and it is still about a half inch over full on the dipstick. I assume the one I should be checking is the yellow one right next to the leak in the pics...? Anyway, Thank you all for your help. But, where do I drain it and refill it? Thanks,
  6. okay. I thought it was too far back on the engine for motor oil, but I don't know that much. thanks for the help. A few more questions... how do I drain it and where do I refill it? How much is supposed to be in there?
  7. I'm pretty sure that it's motor oil thats leaking. If the tranny was over filled, then it shouldn't be anymore, this has been leaking for a while now...
  8. Okay, I'm a new "new genertation" guy, and I don't know that much about these models. Anyway, I don't know what this thing is and more importantly, I don't know why it's leaking. I've got a big road trip coming up so I'd like to fix er before then... Here's a close up. Then a far view... Can anybody help me? What can I do to fix it? Can I just tighten it? It leaks onto the the exhaust and burns off. Not a pleasant smell. all help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!! Thanks,
  9. Welp, went to the yard today and picked up a newer radiator and threw it in. The car no longer overheats, the heater works great, and my problems seem to be solved. This made my day!!!
  10. Last year in Idaho we had really bad cold streak. For about two weeks it was in the single digits or in the negative. Once it got to -24 outside with -41 wind chill. My suby didn't even blink. I'd get in the car and it'd start right up. Then I'd scrape off all the snow and Ice and it was ready to go. On the REALLY cold mornings I usually went out and started it up before i was ready to go. by the time I was ready, so was my car!! Never had the bucking problem...
  11. Okay, sorry to hijack, But I need to find some parts for my legacy and for the newest member, the 86 gl. Anyway, Where is the yard in Tacoma? Mtnman38, what are the two yards that you go to? I was in a wreck in th legacy and want to fix it before I go back to Idaho for my winter break... End hijack... Thanks,
  12. If it's anything like my old 87 gl-10, there are afew metal brackets in the back that get in the way. I ended up using a hack saw and cutting them enough to bend them out of the way. They are only the mounting brackets for the original stereo... But then again, I could be totally wrong as I've never actually seen the inside of an RX... Anyway, Good luck with the install and the new car. I've got three, but Give it time, and I'll soon catch you..
  13. Alright, just spent all weekend working on it... I replaced the water pump, and even though it may not have been the problem, it needed it. The bearing sounds like a meat grinder chewing on some bolts... Anyway, that didn't fix my problem. I then noticed that the fan wasn't running. at all. So I checked the fan motor, it was fine. Checked the wiring, and got some problems there. Replaced the thermoswitch, that didn't help. A waste of $30. Right now the fan is hard-wired to turn on when the ignition is in the on position. I really don't think it's the head gaskets or a cracked head. The compression doesn't seem bad (haven't checked yet), theres no water in the oil, and even though it runs bit rough (cold natured, needs a tune up!), it doesn't leak a drop. Next up will most likely be the radiator. How does one flush the heater core. Someone above said to do this, and I'm thinking that it might help get some actual warm air blowing thru those vents!! thanks, I'll repost after the radiator upgrade...
  14. What, is mine not good enough for ya?!?!? it's closer!!!! I'm just joking... but did you by chance talk to your buddy? I got hit in my Legacy on friday, so the funds will soon be lacking. If he's not interested, thats cool, thanks for asking him.
  15. Thanks! I might have another small project to do later...
  16. Oksy, I don't mean to sound dumb here, but what do you mean "extra grounds"? How would they help? If they do, where do I get them? Do you have a link to the item you bought on ebay? Sorry for all the questions, Thanks again,
  17. Well, I recently joined this club as well, but I bought into it...
  18. Yeah, that was/is the problem with my 87. It's not the case here though, Once it gets hot, it stays hot no matter what it's doing. I think that I am just going to replace the water pump and the radiator at the same time. Even if it's only one of those thats bad, they both need replacement. I just really hope its not a cracked head. The hose not warming up is leading me to belive that its either the radiator or the pump... I firgured out the rattle; it was a missing clamp on theflexible pipe down to the evhaust. I'm hoping that I can get everything done by weeks end... I'll let you all know if it works... Wish me massive amounts of luck and cross your fingers!
  19. Well, I replaced the T-stat today, and wasn't the first to do so. After that and a test drive it leads me to believe that it is the water pump. The hose from the pump to the radiator isn't warm to the touch at all after the engine has warmed up. I'll do some more tests tommorow, and hopefully that will narrow it down. I do think that I will end up replaceing the radiator, just b/c it's in REAL bad shape and it may be clogged, causing that hose to not warm up... Another thing, the heater doesnt blow warm air at all. I was wondering what would cause that, something related to my other problem? Thanks again,
  20. Okay, I bought a new-to-me 1986 GL wagon yesterday. It's got dual range manual 5 spd, and 220k something miles. I bought it at auction for $250 before taxes ($341 after). It's gonna be for my step dad. He wants something to go to the snow with (his ford f-150 can't handle the snow that well, it being 2WD). Anyway, the reason it went so low is b/c it had a caution:overheats marking on it. I know this is a general question, but any ideas? I got a t-stat for it last night, gonna go instal that later today. If that doesn't do it, the Radiator will be next. I'm crossing my fingers that it isn't the heads, but I do realize that with that many miles it could very well be. Anyway, we drove it home, and it jumped up into the red shortly after getting on the highway. the oil pressure dropped significantly shortly after that. Figured that it was getting so hot that it was thining the oil... So what else could it be if the t-stat and radiator don't fix my problem? Water pump? Besides the overheating issue, there is a noise coming from the engine bay when accelerating in gear. It sound like a heat shield to me, but it might be the exhaust. What other things would make that rattling noise? any ideas? Okay, one more question, buts it's kinda a dumb one. How do I tell if my engine is a OHC or OHV? Other than those two problems, there doesn't seem to be much wrong with it and I think it was a pretty good deal. The CV axles don't click, and niether do the lifters. The Inside if pretty clean for a car with more than 200k on it. AND, its got a CD player!!!!! okay, thats not that big of a deal, but it less work forr me later.... Thanks in advance,
  21. ebay. Search for a 16x6 or 6.5 or whatever you size is, and itll bring back a bunch. Most are expensive, but not all. Ive seen (constantly) wheels go for less than $100 for all 4.
  22. First off, the drivers side electric seatbelt track doesn't slide. It sits in one spot at the corner of the door. It works, but I have to crawl under it and it kinda chokes me a bit. Next problem is that the headlight covers are VERY yellow. This is just a major eyesore. Can I replace JUST the covers? Actually I want to take them off and try to clean them up a bit. Do they even come off? Lastly, There is an oil leak that REALLY bugs me. Actually I think there are two or three leaks. I found one, so I tightened it, but that didn't help, so now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have tightened it. I really have no clue where to others are. I've gotten up underneat and tightened all the oil pan screws, no luck. Any suggestions or common leak areas on this car? I'm still learing my way around subarus, and now I have an entirely different one. Any help is utterly awesome...
  23. Thanks for all the info. To let you all know, I didn't get the wheels. I found some more info on the web and saw that its wasn't worth the money i was gonna save (not to me, anyway). I guess I'm looking for some subaru specific wheels... Thanks again,
  24. Okay, Thanks for anweriung all my questions, I have one more... What if the wheel is close to the correct offset, but not exactly? I guess what I mean is what if it's a 40mm positive offset? The reason is I've found a good deal on some wheels (obviously ). Anyway, I just want to make sure that it's alright to put them on my car. With the offset being 40 and not 50, what will happen? Anything MAJOR? On that link the only thing it said that concerned me was the load bearing thing. The rest seems to be more minor things. Any help is greatly appreciated, I need to know by 3:30 today if possible! Thanks again,
