  1. Yep...it's a stock top-mount intercooler from an 02+ WRX. I've got one sitting at home waiting to be installed in my RX as well (as soon as I get the darn thing running again...lol)!
  2. Microsoft has a free Excel 97/2000 viewer on their website: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4EB83149-91DA-4110-8595-4A960D3E1C7C&displaylang=en (They also have viewers for the other Office apps as well. Unfortunately, the Excel viewer only supports up to "2000" but some of the other viewers are more recent (e.g., the PowerPoint Viewer is available for PowerPoint 2003 docs).)
  3. I know Pleiades was at least partly involved in getting Addco to make the Impreza/Legacy front swaybars, but I didn't realize that they had applications for the older Subarus as well!
  4. Put it between {CODE} and {/CODE} tags (with brackets instead of braces, of course) and it won't reformat it.
  5. Another possibility I thought of was a 45-degree at each end with a straight pipe between them (or whatever combo of angles are required that equal 90-degrees and still clear the intake piece). It costs a good bit more that way, though, unless it would be cool enough on the VAF/MAF side to use regular rubber instead of silicone rubber.
  6. I've found the much more common 3" - 2.5" for as little as $10! I wonder if a 2.5" - 2" reducer would stretch enough to fit (as that size is far more common)?
  7. Welcome to the world of silicone hose...hehe BTW, I found plenty of silicone reducers out there (some quite inexpensive ones, too), but very few of the 2.75" - 2.25" variety. :-\
  8. Are these inside or outside diameters?
  9. You may have luck selling just the VAF/MAF to turbo pipes as well. It's a great alternative to the factory part (which is $90 MSRP for the 85/86 version, BTW )!
  10. I know AutoZone has a 180-degree thermostat listed in their system for these cars (that's where I got the one for my 1986 Subaru RX)...don't know if they list a 170, though. ...and the 180-degree one I got from AutoZone had the "jiggle valve" thing as well.
  11. Much easier said than done on the one in the downpipe. Any suggestions for this cat (other than the cut open, peel back, gut and reweld suggestion that I've seen in the past)? But you are correct...turbo cars want the mostly freely flowing exhaust you are willing to give them (unlike N/A cars which need appropriately sized tubing as too large will kill exhaust velocity and reduce scavenging at lower RPM).
  12. Assuming the pricing is similar to the quoted prices and it's bolt on (preferably for the stock turbo, but a TD04 setup would be acceptable as well), I'm 100% in for both parts.
  13. Yeah, that probably means they weigh more, too...LOL Nice to know I have the option of a 87+ bumper, though...thanks.
  14. The reason I ask is that my 86 RX Sedan (i.e. 4-door) has rear bumper damage (from the previous owner) and there is a 85-86 3-door rear bumper support on eBay here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2474256059&category=33640 Anybody know if this would work?
  15. Yes, but it's also only a 4hp difference at like 400rpm higher. Just the switch from the VAF to the hot-wire MAF (and the resultant reduction in airflow restriction (which makes a bigger difference at higher RPM) and the ECU retuning to accomodate the airflow difference) could likely have pulled that off. Note that the torque numbers (and the RPM for the torque peak) remains the same. I'm not saying the cams aren't different, since I haven't messed with them, I'm just saying that the one known change between the two models could explain the difference in power ratings alone.
  16. Mooresville, North Carolina. Quite a ways from Canada...hehe I was under the impression that MAF simply referred to any sensor that measures the actual amount (i.e. mass) of air (as opposed to MAP systems that measure the pressure and temperature and use those numbers to calculate the mass).
  17. Basically the only company that has a hub adapter application for the EA82 cars is Momo, but the part is pretty much impossible to find. Grant makes an adapter for the earlier cars (-1984), the Impreza/Legacy and even the JUSTY, but nothing for the 85+ Loyale/Leone series. For my '86 RX, I did the same basic thing that 75skunkaroo mentioned. I bought an '85 GL steering wheel off eBay, cut it apart, drilled a 3-bolt Grant pattern in it and bolted on my Pilot wheel (a Grant-knockoff steering wheel sold at AutoZone).
  18. Well then let's get another dyno day setup at Taylor's (this time insisting on getting real RPM readings not using "calibration" mode) and I'll bring the RX instead of the Impreza this time. BTW, calling the pre-87 models "pre-MAF" isn't really correct. They still have an MAF, it's just a "flap-type" MAF instead of the later hot-wire MAF setup. A hot-wire style MAF sensor DOES free up horsepower over a flap-type since there is far less intake restriction. However, they also made other changes in 87 (like the change in boost control) which could explain the power difference. I still swear that my 86RX at 12psi pulls stronger than Pleiades' 88RX at 12psi (last time I drove it anyway, which was before he prepped it for the GRM challenge), but I also wonder how much of that could be due to the drivetrain loss difference (i.e., PT4WD (in FWD mode) vs FT4WD). Of course, until I get my hesitation fixed (which I'm almost 100% positive I know what it is now) and get my silicone heater hose for the upper coolant turbo hose (which is backordered but should be here in about a week or so), my car will remain at stock boost (about 6-7lbs). Speaking of which, I didn't realize just how big a difference the MBC had made until I removed it...LOL
  19. I'm with Marck and Myxalplyx on this one. 100% direct bolt-on replacement parts designed for the stock turbo!
  20. You can find the 89 Subaru service manual here: http://www.finleyweb.net/default.asp?id=142 in Adobe Acrobat PDF format (the ones you want are the EA82 manuals). Not sure who runs the site, but I'm grateful for their willingness to share.
  21. I've got the necessary room on my Chase Subaru Mastercard...LOL (Speaking of which, I'm just about to earn my 2nd 100 Subaru Bucks certificate with that card...mmm...free Subaru parts...{drool})
  22. Which board? XT6.net or NASIOC? (I'm a member of both boards and could post for you on one or both if necessary.)
