  1. so your car needed regular maintenace, then broke, someone else fixed it. so you got your car back just like it was before.... sounds like a deal to me:brow: who wouldnt want a 94 lsi wagon?
  2. 2.2 or 2.5 if the 2.2 was even offered????? cant remeber......
  3. the engine your hearing about is the phase 1 2.5. you have a 2.2 so it will be good till 300k+ if you treat it well
  4. i have heard very good things about www.1stsubaruparts.com but have never ordered from them. they will be my first choice when i need parts.
  5. i have heard many times that it is 5 layer.... interesting that your dealer says 4? someone else will post links to good subaru sites. and no the gaskets dont change the compression ratio
  6. The 5 layer HG is oem and i would reconmend getting it from a dealer to make sure it is the newest revision, as there have been a few.
  7. get the coolant tested. i think they test for hydrocarbons?? anyway exaust or oil in the coolant
  8. yup theres already aftermark stuff out there hit up google .....
  9. try seafoam through a vacuum line it works wonderfuly on the carbon buildup:brow:
  10. for minor cases i believe i read that a full tranny fluid flush and slow figure 8's in reverse could help to fix it.... but not sure if that was exactly it. but whatever i read i got it from this board.
  11. search torque bind and youll know exaclty what is wrong with your car:banghead: . and no, its not a good thing
  12. did you put in your fwd fuse like it says in the manual?
  13. in this months consumer reports over there 16 small suv list. it finished In Front of two Toyotas (RAV4 and Matrix awd) and Honda CRV. Next was for with the Escape.
  14. i did a search and it sounds like its a pretty serious project you hafta be ready to tear down the whole seat and the elements are close to 100 bucks. Edit: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9505&page=1&pp=10&highlight=seat+heater
  15. Ive heard all about what Redline MT can do... so lets stick to ATF here. 1997 legacy 110,000k AT (obviously). it has always shifted a little hard and went for a long peroid of time with no ATF change, one done since then. i was wondering if anyone has any expierience with the ATF products vs there MT's? its coming into winter so with sub zero starts and all what can i expect as far as smoothing out shifts. thanx very much Charlie
  16. the elemnts in the seats can easily be broken my kneeling on them. i belive they can be replaced dyi tho. do a search
  17. cleaning up the engine with some sea foam might give you a little more zip.. it did on the 97 legacy(2.5). for this you need to run sea foam through the vaccum lines not just in the gas tank. hope it works for you like it did for me
  18. SOA rep train of thought: scan email, read "head gasket", copie and paste saved answer.
  19. the WRX is out on the street doing its own advertising, and the outback does a pretty good job at that too. the ads need to include the Legacy GT and the GT Wagon! When you release a car get ads out there that show that car, especially from behind, cause if you live in a city stuck behind one in traffic is when you get a good look at it, people need to know what it is when they come up beind it!
  20. im assuming that the new engine is because of head gasket failliar, it could possiblely be running without oil of a snapped t-belt but less likely. so all you need to know is if the new engine is a phase I or II. id say go for it if its a phase II but if its phase I then be careful and make sure you get a little better price:) good luck nice car
  21. this has been posted about several times since i joined (once by me) so ill give you an abreviated answer. 1. most of the loss in mpg from AWD is from the extra weight. 2. there is some electrical componet that will be worn out(search and youll find more on this) 3. its just not worth it Edit: isnt it a 20 amp fuse? it is in a 97 legacy any way
  22. i think it is quite unlikely that anything would need to be replaced and if it did i would only let the dealer touch it if they agreed to buy it back if they failed. they knew nothin about the security system on my egacy and unless over 3 years they changed a lot they have no way to diagnose it... if you wanna try a remote it would be maybe 15 or 20 bucks on ebay..... which id say is worth it. thats where i got mine from.
  23. have you tryed pulling the security system fuses and/or maybe the battery cable just to check before we get too technical?
  24. lol thanx we could help. wouldnt it be nice if you never had to open the hood to find the answer:brow:
