  1. I have wanted one of these for some time. I has an automatic tranny and AWD. It also has a blown headgasket. I have only had ea82 powered subies so this is going to be a learning experience. The car iooks very good. Very clean and rust free. Even the engine is spotless. I wonder how many new japanese cuss words I will need to learn?
  2. I couldn't resist. I installed a cherry bomb on my gl. sounds great
  3. 88 gl wagon has been very dependable but today it got me. Was making a quick trip into town for tractor parts when all of a sudden all the lights on dash came on and lost power steering. stopped and lifted hood to find crank pulley hanging by a belt. Somehow the bolt was still in it. So I put it back together and finished my trip. I know that the previous owner had changed timing belts just before I got the engine so I guess I know who to blame. It is usually me.
  4. If you still have this contact me. I think we can do some business. allan 5738735842 or allan102@gmail.com

  5. My 88 gl has acquired a problem. It is spfi no turbo. If it was a carbed unit I would know were to look. When you open throttle at lowspeed it hesitates. ( no accel pump) Once it starts to go it is great. Very good acceleration. Everything looks good. hoses etc. New fuel pump, filter, plugs etc. Who knows where to look?
  6. be sure you are sitting down and then check price on bearing and seals. Best price I could find was about $50. for 2 seals and bearing assembly.
  7. Stuff a 180hp corvair engine in it. air cooled and very powerful. Had one in my 68 vw bus. Only time they overheat is when it tosses fan belt off. To often it seems.
  8. This place has resistor pack for subie. I cant remember part number at the moment but someone will have it. http://bbb-carb.com/std/resistor.htm
  9. Pop the dist cap and see if rotor turns when you try to start. If no turn broke belt. Also check rotor and see if it is loose. Screw may be out.
  10. does anyone one know length and width of a 96 outback wagon? I need to haul one and need to know if it will fit on flatbed I have access to.
  11. I think I really bit off A bunch of trouble this time. I just bought A 96 obw and it is kit form. Someone has taken it all apart. I know it had blown head gaskets but no uther info.I gotta go get it Tues. I havent seen it yet. Seems it has a 2.2 with it,(not in it) I guess it is worth $200. and 400 mi round trip. Wish me luck If you arn't the lead Dog the view never changes.
  12. I just finished repairing threads on 2 sparkplugs. Heli-coil from your autoparts store is the way to go.
  13. Well i'll be. Another electronics type. I've been in it since 1962!!! Finished up working in R&D on the bar code scanner wal-mart uses for inventry. How about that. I think I would start looking for a voltage regulater in that digi-dash. How many solid state gadgets have you found with voltage problems.
  14. RSVP here so I can figure what supplies I'll need.[/quote Just showed Bonnie about your meet and she said we will try to come. may not be able to stay a long time (she just got out of hospital abdominal surg). Will drive my $;)200.00 gl if it is running well enough. (rust and flapping fender). Al and Bonnie
  15. Good ole Bullheadcity. I used to live in golden valley az. at that time only the riverside was in laughlin. I had to go to bhc twice a week. Hottest place ive ever been. He is right there ain't nothing near. Even Kingman didn't have much. I used to go to Victorville ca. to get parts.
  16. Don't know what I did to my 88GL wagon but it must have been bad. Had to make a DR. run and when i started er up woukdn't run under 3k rpm. I shut it down and no start. Pulled codes and got the usual 34 and a crank angle sensor error. I pulled the distributer and found it full of water??? Put spare on and tried to start. Backfire etc. Checked timing and belts no problem found. Had already rplaced scr switch and coil. Wires and plugs new. I pulled hose from fuel filter to check for blockage and no fuel. stuck gauge on it and no pressure. Could hear pump running. Got under and pulled hose from tank to pump, lots of fuel. Fuel down arm etc. Started removing pump which must have been on there since new. Twisted off mounting bolts (not even pb blaster loosened) Used hot wrench to pull stubs. Put on pump from old DL and hit starter. Fired right up.Took me a week or so to find and fix. Every time I went out it would rain. This is getting as bad as you guys in the northwest. 1/2 inch early this morning. Possible ever day this week. YUK
  17. My turn to look for ideas. 88 gl spfi won't start. Pulled codes and got an 11. Pulled distributor and found it full of water???? Car has been parked on a hill during very heavy rain. Pulled disty out of spare engine (was running poor compression) Put it and check timming (yes I did go to correct mark on fw. No go. Doesn't even try. Just in case I changed the coil and scr switch. Lots fire at plugs but no go. Fuel system ok. pressure and plenty fuel at tb. Belts are ok and rotor ok. Suggestions please.
  18. This is wonderful stuff. When my 88gl wouldn't continue to run when started, a half can of seafoam in tank soon cleared the problem. It hasn't returned. It is also great in chainsaw. When it starts dying and acting up, A couple of tablespoons in tank will cure it.
  19. Went out to start my 88gl afew days ago and it started on two cyl acted like a carbed engine with a stuck choke. Could keep it running at 3500rpm or more. less and it would die. Since it spfi this was strange. After it warmed up for a while 7 to 10 min It would smooth out and run fine until I did a cold start. I crossed my fingers and poured about a half can of seafoam in gas tank then drove it to nearest town and back. About 30 mi. It runs smooth, starts easy and has'nt missed a lick since. Wonderfull stuff that.
  20. Iam driving an 88 gl wagon with tb fuel and dual range. Goes anywhere. Really like it over :burnout:our two 88 dl's with single range trannys.
  21. Look here for wheel arches and rocker panels. Makes repair a lot easier. http://www.rustrepair.com/app2/onlinecat.htm
  22. WOW now you did it for sure. Won't have any thing to complain about for years.
  23. Any one know who posted pic of short 36 p/u?
  24. For those who want to know, here is how I change a subaru to r-134. First evacuate system. If there is no freon you can use venturi type vacuum pump from harbor freight. If there is you are gointo have to take it to a shop. Next replace acumulater round canister with sight glass on top. You must change this. With 21 or so inches of vacuum add a can of pag oil or other oil for r134. Now you need freon and some way to add it. One of those kits from wallmart might work but you really need a manifold set for r134. 50. dollars or so from harbor freight. You are going to need about 1/2 as much as was with r-12. I just did my 88gl and it has very cold air. Make a search (google) for autofrost. They make a replacement for r-12 that claim is a direct dropin replacement. I am licensed. found a site with a study guide and an open book test. Ithink it cost$10.00
  25. Seems to be a lot of us in Mo. I am at lake of the ozarks. Only thing is they seem to multiply here. I now have 3 sitting around. Just aquired an 88GL. Had bad rod so I pulled the engine from an 88DL with rusted out suspension mounts. Car is running good. Getting a new windshield Tues and will be ready to get registered.
